{"id":70220,"date":"2017-03-31T17:04:10","date_gmt":"2017-03-31T21:04:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=70220"},"modified":"2017-03-31T17:04:10","modified_gmt":"2017-03-31T21:04:10","slug":"sessions-moves-to-quickly-deport-imprisoned-immigrants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=70220","title":{"rendered":"Sessions Moves To Quickly Deport Imprisoned Immigrants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/players.brightcove.net\/5107476400001\/B1xUkhW8i_default\/index.html?videoId=5380471942001\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nThe Department of Justice announced Thursday the expansion of a program designed to deport imprisoned immigrants.<\/p>\n<p>The Institutional Hearing Program (IHP) uses in-person and video-conference hearings in order for judges to determine whether an immigrant, regardless of legal status, should be deported after they serve their sentence. Bureau of Prison statistics show that a little over 20 percent of federal inmates are non-citizens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe owe it to the American people to ensure that illegal aliens who have been convicted of crimes and are serving time in our federal prisons are expeditiously removed from our country as the law requires,\u201d Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in a statement. \u201cThis expansion and modernization of the Institutional Hearing Program gives us the tools to continue making Americans safe again in their communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A recent <a href=\"http:\/\/trac.syr.edu\/immigration\/reports\/461\/\" target=\"_blank\">analysis<\/a> by Syracuse University\u2019s\u00a0Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse showed that deportations from IHP have dropped dramatically since the late 1990s.
