Kennedy Profile in Courage Award, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jfklibrary.org\/Events-and-Awards\/Profile-in-Courage-Award.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">the most prestigious award for public servants.<\/a>\u201d Named after JFK\u2019s 1957 book, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0060854936\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=wakitime09-20&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;creativeASIN=0060854936&amp;linkId=f937f14016aa2486b2e9e980ba807c92\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Profiles in Courage<\/em><\/a>, it is awarded annually by the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation to \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/nbcblk\/barack-obama-named-recipient-jfk-profile-courage-award-n728206\" target=\"_blank\">public servants who have made courageous decisions of conscience without regard for the personal or professional consequences.<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Obama will receive this award for his efforts in promoting democratic principles in the face of severe political opposition\u00a0by members of Congress and a divided national political body.<\/p>\n<aside id=\"text-12\" class=\"widget_text amr_widget \">\n<div class=\"textwidget\"><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cFaced with unrelenting political opposition, President Obama has embodied the definition of courage that my grandfather cites in the opening lines of \u2018Profiles in Courage\u2019: grace under pressure,\u201d Schlossberg said. \u201cThroughout his two terms in office, he represented all Americans with decency, integrity, and an unshakeable commitment to the greater good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Obama is being recognized for \u201chis enduring commitment to democratic ideals and elevating the standard of political courage in a new century,\u201d the foundation said, citing the expansion of health care options for millions, restoring diplomatic relations with Cuba and leadership on an international climate change agreement.\u201d [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/nbcblk\/barack-obama-named-recipient-jfk-profile-courage-award-n728206\" target=\"_blank\">Source<\/a>]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Of course, Mr. Obama is humbled, as he should be, however, an award like this gives pause for those who wonder why so much of Obama\u2019s legacy of war, military adventurism, surveillance, and indiscriminate drone bombings of Middle Eastern and African people is so under-represented in conversation about the merits of his eight year tenure as president.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Humbled to be recognized by a family with a legacy of service. Not only did he fail to honor his promise to close Guantanamo bay prison, but he also ended up being the first president in U.S. history to be at war for the entire duration of his presidency, averaging a whopping <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wakingtimes.com\/2017\/01\/06\/72-bombs-day-u-s-spreads-democracy-freedom\/\" target=\"_blank\">72 bombs a day dropped on foreign countries<\/a>, most of which were majority Muslim nations.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cEvery Tuesday \u2014 reported the <em>New York Times<\/em> \u2014 he personally selected those who would be murdered by mostly hellfire missiles fired from drones. Weddings, funerals, shepherds were attacked, along with those attempting to collect the body parts festooning the \u201cterrorist target\u201d. A leading Republican senator, Lindsey Graham, estimated, approvingly, that Obama\u2019s drones killed 4,700 people. \u201cSometimes you hit innocent people and I hate that,\u201d he said, but we\u2019ve taken out some very senior members of Al Qaeda.\u201d\u201d ~<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wakingtimes.com\/2017\/01\/18\/blistering-destruction-obamas-imperial-legacy\/\" target=\"_blank\">John Pilger<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Furthermore, Obama\u2019s accomplishments as president include the destruction of Libya, the financing of political coups in other nations, launching U.S. military intervention in Africa, massive advances in domestic and international surveillance, unprecedented persecution of whistleblowers, and the material support of Islamic terrorist organizations like Al Qaeda and ISIS.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>An Anti-Democratic Legacy of Imperialism\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>While on the surface, awards like these are fantastic for public relations, we\u00a0live in the era of half-truths, hypocrisy and ignored realities. A time when organizations which have historically promoted democracy, justice, peace and liberty openly engage in\u00a0superficiality and sycophancy, choosing to remain blind in the presence of betrayal by our leaders.<\/p>\n<p>It is a sign of the times, though. People no longer seem to care for substance or truth, only style and bias confirmation.
