William Nye, who\u00a0goes by the\u00a0nom de plume,\u00a0\u201cBill Nye, the science guy,\u201d Was interviewed on the Tucker Carlson program on Monday and fell victim to Carlson\u2019s brilliant interview style\u2013generally Carlson takes his guests \u00a0points as true, and asks questions that that anyone generally interested in learning more may ask, but those questions usually expose the holes in the\u00a0guest\u2019s logic. \u00a0When one considers that\u00a0Nye is children\u2019s TV entertainer\u00a0not a scientist,<\/strong>\u00a0and has at times,\u00a0been ridiculed by climate experts, it\u2019s not surprising that Carlson asked Nye some basic questions which Nye couldn\u2019t (or didn\u2019t want to) \u00a0answer.<\/p>\n After introducing the subject, including Nye\u2019s call to send skeptics to jail, Carlson explained that we\u2019ve always have had climate change so the real question is why is it happening and who is causing it.<\/p>\n To what degree is climate changed caused by human activity? Is it a hundred percent caused by human activity, is it 74.3%? It\u2019s \u201csettled science,\u201d please tell us to what degree human activity is responsible?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n A simple question that Nye didn\u2019t want to answer so he started playing games with the words Tucker Carlson used:<\/p>\n \u201cSo the word \u2018degree\u2019 is a word that you chose, but the speed that climate change is happening is caused by humans. Instead of happening on time-scales of millions of years, or let\u2019s say, fifteen thousand years, it\u2019s happening on a time-scale of decades, and now years.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cTo what extent is human activity responsible for speeding that up?\u201d Asked the host, \u201c100%\u201d Nye answered, \u201cIf that\u2019s the number you want. Humans are causing it to happen catastrophically fast.\u201d<\/p>\n Carlson continued, \u201cOK so at what rate would it have changed without human activity? You look annoyed that I\u2019m asking these questions, but they\u2019re very basic questions. They\u2019re not denial.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n \u201cOK, answered the not a science guy as he went on to give an answer\u00a0that proved his lack of science training, \u00a0\u201cso, basically, the cycles of climate change, the last ice age we had was tens of thousands of years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n Er..Bill,\u00a0the last ice age we had ended a bit less than 12,000 years ago. That is something Nye would know if he was a climate scientist, or if he took Earth Science 101 as a college freshman as I did.<\/p>\n Nye continued,\u00a0\u00a0\u201cSo, uh, bear in mind that in ancient dinosaur days there was more carbon monoxide, the world was warmer than it is now, there was an inland sea in what is now Wyoming. I understand you have a member of Congress from Colorado used to be underwater and you can go to Dinosaur National Monument to see it, but that was millions of years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n Carlson interjected, \u201cYou just said it was tens of thousands,\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat was the ice age,\u201d Nye corrected\u00a0\u201cThe rate, the rate is the problem. Now here\u2019s the thing \u2013 half of the people in the world live on sea coasts. As we get the ocean a little bit warmer, the ocean is going to expand, and people on the sea coast are going to be displaced.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2018OK, but you\u2019re changing,\u201d Carlson corrected him, \u00a0\u201cyou\u2019re not answering my question.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Tucker Carlson asked the question a different way. Pointing out that Nye contends the rate of climate change is accelerating, the Fox host asked how much of that acceleration is caused by humans. Getting semantically snobby to cover up the fact he didn\u2019t have the answer, Nye said \u201cThe word \u2018accelerated\u2019 is an understatement, It\u2019s happening extraordinarily fast.\u201d<\/p>\n Okay Mr Nye, then let me ask you something Tucker didn\u2019t. If the speed of climate change is accelerating, why does the satellite data show there hasn\u2019t been an increase in temperature for the past 18 years?<\/a>\u00a0That seems to me as if it was slowing down.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m asking you a simple question,\u201d Carlson\u00a0tried again. \u201cAnd because the science is settled, I hope you can answer it in simple terms, which is, without human activity would it have taken for us to reach this level of warmth in our climate.\u201d<\/p>\n Ah, it\u2019s not clear that it would have happened. In other words, humans have changed the climate so drastically that we almost certainly avoided another ice age. There would have been another ice age \u2013 ain\u2019t gonna happen. Because of you and me. So the sooner we get to work on this problem \u2013<\/p>\n \u201cSo when would it have happened?\u201d Carlson\u00a0asked again.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen would the next ice age have happened? Is that your question? I claim that\u2019s irrelevant,\u201d claimed Nye.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n To\u00a0Bill Nye, \u2018that\u2019s irrelevant\u201d\u00a0really means \u201cI have no freaking idea.\u201d<\/p>\n There is more Tucker Carlson destruction of Bill Nye in the video below. \u00a0But before you view it, allow me to take this opportunity to tell you a bit more about the supposed \u201cScience Guy\u201d<\/p>\n A vocal supporter of the climate change hypothesis, Nye isn\u2019t\u00a0more qualified\u00a0to speak about climate science than any other non-scientist. He has a B.S. in\u00a0mechanical <\/a>engineering from\u00a0Cornell University, and worked at\u00a0Boeing in the\u00a0mechanical engineering department. His entry into TV was not because of any science expertise but because he\u00a0won a\u00a0Steve Martin look-alike contest and began moonlight as\u00a0a stand-up comic by night.<\/strong> Eventually he quit Boeing\u00a0and became a comedy writer and performer on a\u00a0sketch comedy television show in Seattle, Washington, called Almost Live! <\/em>The host of the <\/a>show, Ross Shafer, suggested he do some scientific demonstrations in a six-minute segment, and take on the nickname \u201cThe Science Guy\u201d.<\/p>\n In other words, Nye\u2019s qualifications as a climate scientist are based on the fact that he looked like Steve Martin and did comedy about science. If he looked like Rodney Dangerfield, Nye might still be working as a\u00a0mechanical\u00a0engineer.<\/strong><\/p>\n At times Nye gets treated like Rodney Dangerfield and gets no respect, like the time\u00a0\u00a0Washington Post\u2019s\u00a0weather editor\u00a0Jason Samenow\u00a0(who has a master\u2019s degree in atmospheric science from the University of Wisconsin) viewed\u00a0Nye speaking about climate change on MSNBC,\u00a0and was motivated to write a column<\/a>\u00a0absolutely eviscerating the children\u2019s TV star.\u00a0Samenow\u00a0said that Nye\u2019s performance \u201cwas\u00a0one of the most flawed discussions of meteorology I\u2019ve ever seen on a national network<\/strong><\/u>.\u201d<\/p>\n Nye not only tries to pass himself off as a climate scientist, one he appeared on Bill Maher\u2019s HBO program and tried to pass himself off as a behavioral scientist saying that there would be no\u00a0anti-Semitism\u00a0in Europe if the Jews would bother to get to\u00a0know their neighbors,<\/a>\u00a0\u201cSo, what do you do about it [anti-Semitism]?\u00a0I think you get to know your neighbors. And it\u2019s\u00a0gonna<\/span>\u00a0take, what, does it take a century, something.\u201d<\/p>\n Based on his background Nye should not be presenting\u00a0himself as an expert in climate science but rather someone with expertise\u00a0in\u00a0mechanical\u00a0engineering, looking like Steve Martin, sketch comedy, or\u00a0children\u2019s television. However, thanks to the First Amendment to the Constitution, Nye has the right to present himself as anything he wishes without getting thrown in jail, the same way the Amendment protects the so-called skeptics who believe the science\u00a0disproves the\u00a0man-made climate hypothesis.
