Podesta, the chair of Hillary Clinton\u2019s failed presidential campaign and former chief of staff to President Bill Clinton, said Monday that \u201cforces within the FBI wanted [Clinton] to lose<\/em>.\u201d It was Podesta\u2019s first interview since the November election.<\/p>\n

Podesta told journalist John Heilemann that FBI director James Comey\u2019s decision to publicly disclose that the bureau was looking into more of Clinton\u2019s emails, just 11 days before election day, was \u201cinexplicable<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Podesta said he believes there are only two reasons why the FBI would pursue Clinton in the public way they did:<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are at least forces within the FBI that wanted her to lose. I\u2019m not sure they really understood the alternative, but they wanted her to lose. I think that\u2019s one possibility.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the other is it\u2019s just become a cover-your-ass organization, and there was pressure coming up from underneath him, and he succumbed to that pressure<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Either way Podesta says the \u201cterrible mistake of judgmen<\/em>t\u201d did \u201cterrible damage<\/em>\u201d to the Clinton campaign: \u201cIf you look at the polling at that time, that\u2019s when the race began to tighten in that last week.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

Podesta went on to reiterate previous claims that Trump has close ties with Russia and that President Vladimir Putin directly interfered with the US election.<\/p>\n

Podesta called for a \u201cserious investigation of whatever collusion existed between the Trump campaign, the Russians and Assange<\/em>,\u201d referencing Julian Assange\u2019s WikiLeaks organization, which leaked 60,000 of Podesta\u2019s emails in the run-up to the election.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s legislation pending to create a 9\/11 style independent, bipartisan, out of Congress commission. The Republicans, and the House in particular, show no interest in moving that legislation forward, but we should get to the bottom of i<\/em>t.\u201d<\/p>\n
