\nRepublican investigators are vowing to pursue the criminal probe into Hillary Clinton\u2019s use of a private email server and mishandling of classified information, with Jason Chaffetz warning that her\u00a0election loss won\u2019t grant her\u00a0a get out of jail free card.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis was never a political targeting in the beginning and just because there was a political election doesn\u2019t mean it goes away,<\/em>\u201d House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, told reporters Monday. \u201cThere were a lot of other characters that were involved in this that we have to look at<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Their review will encompass an array of figures, ranging from Clinton\u2019s ousted team, including Huma Abedin, to incumbent leaders of the\u00a0FBI.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was potentially one of the largest breaches of security in the history of the State Department<\/em>,\u201d he said. \u201cIt cannot and should never be repeated again. How is it that so much information was able to migrate out into the world? These are still open questions that we need to finish up so that they don\u2019t happen again.<\/em>\u201c<\/p>\n

Appetite for justice\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Washington Examiner reports<\/a> that\u00a0Chaffetz wants to review the security clearances of Clinton aides who helped manage the \u201cextremely careless<\/em>\u201d email process described by\u00a0FBI Director James Comey. Chaffetz said\u00a0he is inclined to hold\u00a0Bryan Pagliano, a key Clinton IT aide, in contempt of Congress for flouting subpoenas last year. \u201cYou can\u2019t just get a subpoena from Congress to testify and not show up<\/em>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Utah Republican wants to target more senior officials, such as State Department Under Secretary for Management Patrick Kennedy, in light of\u00a0FBI suggestions\u00a0that he tried to set up a \u201cquid pro quo\u201d with the\u00a0FBIto suppress revelations that Clinton\u2019s email server held classified information.<\/p>\n

FBI\u00a0leadership could also be a live target of the review, as Republicans are troubled that Va. Gov Terry McAuliffe, a longtime ally of the Clintons,\u00a0made campaign donations\u00a0to the wife of Andrew McCabe, the agency\u2019s second-in-command. \u201cI\u2019m very concerned about the straight-up conflict of interest that Mr. McCabe had<\/em>,\u201d Chaffetz said. \u201cThat\u2019s something we\u2019ll continue to spend resources on<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLock her up\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Trump regularly led \u201clock her up\u201d chants on the campaign trail, but Chaffetz hinted that the collaboration might not be as automatic as the party registration of Trump and the lawmakers might suggest. \u201cIt depends how cooperative the administration is going to be. We\u2019re going to work with [White House General Counsel Don] McGahn and [incoming] Attorney General Sessions and others to see what sort of documents and what sort of access we\u2019re going to be allowed.<\/em>\u201c<\/p>\n

Even if the White House does sign off, Chaffetz suggested that lower level State Department officials might hamper the probe. \u201cWe\u2019re still dealing with the massive bureaucracy; changing the secretary of state doesn\u2019t necessarily change the whole bureaucracy<\/em>,\u201d Chaffetz said. \u201cI don\u2019t want this to linger, but the reason we\u2019re still talking about it now is because stuff that we\u2019ve been asking for since 2010 still hasn\u2019t arrived.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
