{"id":60394,"date":"2016-12-15T07:29:49","date_gmt":"2016-12-15T11:29:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=60394"},"modified":"2016-12-15T07:29:49","modified_gmt":"2016-12-15T11:29:49","slug":"full-page-ads-urge-gop-electors-not-to-vote-for-trump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=60394","title":{"rendered":"Full-page ads urge GOP electors not to vote for Trump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more-->BY JENNIFER CALFAS<br \/>\nThe Hill<\/p>\n<div class=\"content-img-wrp\">\n<div class=\"content-img\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/thumb_small_article\/public\/blogs\/trumpdonaldtour.jpg?itok=RtxALQE2\" alt=\"Full-page ads urge GOP electors not to vote for Trump\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content-with-sidebar-wrp\">\n<div class=\"content-wrp\">\n<div class=\"field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p>Full-page ads created by a Democratic activist are urging Electoral College members to vote against President-elect <span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/donald-trump\" data-nid=\"261287\">Donald Trump<\/a><\/span> on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The ads, which began running in newspapers across the country Wednesday, are funded by Daniel Brezenoff, who made a<a href=\"http:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/electoral-college-make-hillary-clinton-president-on-december-19-4a78160a-023c-4ff0-9069-53cee2a095a8\">\u00a0Change.org petition<\/a>\u00a0urging electors not to vote for Trump.<\/p>\n<p>He\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2016\/12\/trump-electors-activist-campaign-electoral-college-232635?cmpid=sf\">told Politico<\/a>\u00a0the ad is not aimed at choosing Clinton or a specific Republican alternative to Trump but intended to inspire electors to use their own judgment before voting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are times in the life of a nation when extraordinary circumstances call for extraordinary measures,\u201d<a href=\"http:\/\/lettertoelectors.org\/#gs.O9PpHhk\"> the ad reads<\/a>. \u201cNow is such a time, and your courage and leadership are required.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ad, which encouraged Republican electors to \u201cvote their conscious,\u201d appeared in the Washington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, Austin American-Statesman, Salt Lake City Tribune and Tampa Bay Times. The ad will also appear on Thursday in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Wisconsin State Journal. All of the newspapers listed \u2014 aside from The Washington Post \u2014 primarily serve communities in states that turned red on Nov. 8.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You, Electors, possess the power to prevent this outcome,&#8221; the ad reads. &#8220;You are not bound to cast your vote for the candidate of your party \u2014 and, as he won neither a majority nor even a plurality of the popular vote, there can be no question of undermining the will of The People.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The 538 electors will gather around the country on Monday to vote.<\/p>\n<p>On Nov. 8, Trump won 306 electoral votes and <span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/hillary-clinton\" data-nid=\"188224\">Hillary Clinton<\/a><\/span> got 232.
