The Arizona Republic lost subscribers and received a death threat after endorsing<\/a> Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

BRIAN SNYDER \/ REUTERS \u00a0\u2022 \u00a0Several traditionally conservative newspapers are getting behind Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton this year.<\/h5>\n<\/figure>\n

\u201cWell it\u2019s been crazy around here,\u201d said Phil Boas, director of the Arizona Republic\u2019s editorial page, according to USA Today<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re getting a lot of reaction both locally and national.\u00a0I don\u2019t believe true readers of the editorial page are surprised by this at all, because over the past year we have been writing scathing, scalding articles aboutDonald Trump<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boas told The New York Times<\/a>\u00a0there was no consideration of disgruntled readers in his paper\u2019s decision to back a Democrat for the first time in its 126-year history.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know we\u2019re doing the right thing,\u201d he said. \u201cWe feel very good about this decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Arizona Republic\u2019s editorial<\/a> said GOP presidential nominee Trump \u201cis not conservative and he is not qualified.\u201d Other reasons the editorial board cited for not backing the brash businessman included lack of foreign policy proposals, his refusal to release his tax returns and his insulting comments about women and minorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cEach of those comments show a stunning lack of human decency, empathy and respect,\u201d the editorial board wrote.<\/p>\n

Other traditionally conservative papers have lined up behind Clinton<\/a>in this year\u2019s election, including the Dallas Morning News<\/a>\u00a0and theCincinnati Enquirer<\/a>.\u00a0The Detroit News<\/a>,\u00a0New Hampshire Union Leader<\/a>and Richmond Times-Dispatch<\/a>\u00a0each chose to endorse Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson over Trump.<\/p>\n

Editor\u2019s note: Donald Trump regularly <\/em>incites political violence<\/em><\/a> and is a<\/em>serial liar<\/em><\/a>, <\/em>rampant xenophobe<\/em><\/a>, <\/em>racist<\/em><\/a>, <\/em>misogynist<\/em><\/a> and <\/em>birther<\/em><\/a> who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims \u2014 1.6 billion members of an entire religion \u2014 from entering the U.S.<\/em><\/p>\n
