{"id":50626,"date":"2016-09-29T10:11:27","date_gmt":"2016-09-29T14:11:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=50626"},"modified":"2016-09-30T13:55:03","modified_gmt":"2016-09-30T17:55:03","slug":"the-deepening-crisis-of-world-capitalism-and-western-civilization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=50626","title":{"rendered":"The Deepening Crisis of World Capitalism and Western Civilization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more-->Windsor, CA<br \/>\nSeptember 28, 2016<\/p>\n<p>by Rich Scheck<\/p>\n<p>Patrick Martin has eloquently captured the spectacle of the &#8220;debate&#8221;<br \/>\nbetween Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump on Monday.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsws.org\/en\/articles\/2016\/09\/27\/deba-s27.html\">http:\/\/www.wsws.org\/en\/articles\/2016\/09\/27\/deba-s27.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>What is totally clear from a careful analysis of what was said and<br \/>\nthe overall condition of the American Republic is that neither candidate<br \/>\nreally has a clue what to do to stop the rapid erosion of our economic<br \/>\nand political situation and that neither person really cares a whit for<br \/>\nthe people of this country.<\/p>\n<p>This is a game to them, the culmination of their previous life&#8217;s work<br \/>\nand an opportunity to take the next step on their career paths rather<br \/>\nthan it being a deep exercise in restoring America to its heritage of<br \/>\nliberty and personal freedom.<\/p>\n<p>Whoever wins the election&#8212;if indeed one is held in six weeks, will<br \/>\nface a series of problems so overwhelming and so unique in their<br \/>\ncomplexity, that it is highly unlikely they will be able to govern much<br \/>\nless make any progress with the issues they inherit.<\/p>\n<p>This bleak assessment comes after years of watching our nation<br \/>\ncontinue its endless wars and imperial over-reach as the main prop<br \/>\nfor a faltering economic system, what Martin describes as the<br \/>\n&#8220;deepening crisis of world capitalism!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is a very tragic situation: not only has America destroyed the<br \/>\nlives of countless millions of innocent people, it is now faced with the<br \/>\nhigh prospect that the Empire is set to implode and spread the pain to<br \/>\nthe its own citizens who had benefited from its plundering ways.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">That is what Sanders and Trump represented during this election cycle:<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">an inchoate attempt to give voice to the country&#8217;s disaffected. <\/span><span class=\"s1\">But neither<br \/>\nwas overtly anti-war or anti-Empire.\u00a0 Sanders the Socialist<\/span><span class=\"s1\">promoted the<br \/>\nF-35 (built in Vermont) and paid lip-service to being the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">peace candidate.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Trump at times seemed interested in working with Russia to diffuse<br \/>\nworld tensions and promote peace. By calling for dramatic increases<br \/>\nin military spending and unflinching war against ISIS without indicating<br \/>\nthat it was essentially an invention and tool of the West, he emerges<br \/>\nas another hawk mindlessly ready to do battle.<\/p>\n<p>As Martin states, the election is essentially meaningless other than to<br \/>\nconfirm that for the immediate future, nothing will change.
