\nthe overall condition of the American Republic is that neither candidate
\nreally has a clue what to do to stop the rapid erosion of our economic
\nand political situation and that neither person really cares a whit for
\nthe people of this country.<\/p>\n
This is a game to them, the culmination of their previous life’s work
\nand an opportunity to take the next step on their career paths rather
\nthan it being a deep exercise in restoring America to its heritage of
\nliberty and personal freedom.<\/p>\n
Whoever wins the election—if indeed one is held in six weeks, will
\nface a series of problems so overwhelming and so unique in their
\ncomplexity, that it is highly unlikely they will be able to govern much
\nless make any progress with the issues they inherit.<\/p>\n
This bleak assessment comes after years of watching our nation
\ncontinue its endless wars and imperial over-reach as the main prop
\nfor a faltering economic system, what Martin describes as the
\n“deepening crisis of world capitalism!”<\/p>\n
This is a very tragic situation: not only has America destroyed the
\nlives of countless millions of innocent people, it is now faced with the
\nhigh prospect that the Empire is set to implode and spread the pain to
\nthe its own citizens who had benefited from its plundering ways.<\/p>\n
That is what Sanders and Trump represented during this election cycle:
\n<\/span>an inchoate attempt to give voice to the country’s disaffected. <\/span>But neither
\nwas overtly anti-war or anti-Empire.\u00a0 Sanders the Socialist<\/span>promoted the
\nF-35 (built in Vermont) and paid lip-service to being the\u00a0<\/span>peace candidate.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\nTrump at times seemed interested in working with Russia to diffuse
\nworld tensions and promote peace. By calling for dramatic increases
\nin military spending and unflinching war against ISIS without indicating
\nthat it was essentially an invention and tool of the West, he emerges
\nas another hawk mindlessly ready to do battle.<\/p>\n
As Martin states, the election is essentially meaningless other than to
\nconfirm that for the immediate future, nothing will change. Should
\nHillary prevail to become the first woman president, that will be the
\nequivalent of Obama being the first black person to inhabit the White
\nHouse: a perfect continuation of the same failed policies and the
\nstatus quo with only the skin color or gender changing.<\/p>\n
It remains to be seen how much longer those in power can
\nperpetuate the charade of normalcy as the crisis deepens and all\u00a0of
