At 28, she has never voted before, and she is now thinking it might be a good idea to start.<\/p>\n<p>Letosky entered the evening undecided in a town that is heavily Democratic in registration. Her sister and father are on opposite sides of the political aisle. The policies she talked about tonight ultimately either hurt me or ignore me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>How apropos for this presidential election that these patrons chose the Tin Lizzy \u2014 a 270-year-old tavern in this small Westmoreland County town \u2014 as the place to watch the historic debate between Clinton and Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The tavern\u2019s namesake is the Model T, the first affordable automobile available to America\u2019s working class, which eventually became slang for something quite different.<\/p>\n<p>If someone said you were \u201cgoing the way of the Tin Lizzy,\u201d it meant your job or industry was in decline, no longer useful.<\/p>\n<p>That is how today\u2019s cosmopolitan and political classes view Main Street voters \u2014\u00a0as people whose values, traditions, skills, jobs and lives are being replaced by something new.<\/p>\n<div class=\"graphiq\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/w.graphiq.com\/w\/4k3fQbhVY7r?data-width=615&amp;data-height=525&amp;data-frozen=&amp;data-href=http%3A%2F%2Fpresidential-candidates.insidegov.com&amp;data-script-version=true&amp;data-sv=1.0.0\" width=\"615\" height=\"525\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"ftb-widget\" data-width=\"615\" data-height=\"525\" data-widget-id=\"4k3fQbhVY7r\" data-frozen=\"\" data-href=\"http:\/\/presidential-candidates.insidegov.com\"><a href=\"http:\/\/presidential-candidates.insidegov.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">InsideGov | Graphiq<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been a Democrat all of my life, but when Clinton mentions her husband and the jobs he brought to the country in the \u201990s, it\u2019s not a fair assessment. She is no moderate Democrat the way he was, her policies would not bring back jobs,\u201d said Nathan Nemick.<\/p>\n<p>It burns Nemick when Clinton references her husband, like she did in the debate on trade and jobs. \u201cShe is nothing like him,\u201d he said of the Democrat he admired in his youth.<\/p>\n<p>Pennsylvania is a high-stakes state for both candidates, but particularly Clinton, and Westmoreland is a high-stakes county, particularly for Trump.<\/p>\n<p>She needs to win this state, and he needs not just to win this county but to do so by 2,000 more votes than Mitt Romney did in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Westmoreland is one of about 10 formerly or traditionally Democrat-blue counties across the state where Trump must drive up a higher-than-normal turnout, or even flip them to Republican red, in order to offset an anticipated high turnout for Clinton in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>The other counties are Cambria, Greene, Fayette and Washington in the southwest corner of the state and Bucks, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Luzerne and York in the east.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10425678\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a class=\"modal-trigger\">Modal Trigger<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-10425678\" src=\"http:\/\/thenypost.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/09\/youngstownpa_debatewatch_03.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=300&amp;strip=all\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 300px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/thenypost.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/09\/youngstownpa_debatewatch_03.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=300 300w, http:\/\/thenypost.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/09\/youngstownpa_debatewatch_03.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=576 576w\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"223\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kady Letosky, 28, of Latrobe, Pa., watches the presidential<br \/>\ndebate at the Tin Lizzy, a 270-year-old tavern in Youngstown, Pa.,<br \/>\non Monday, Sept. 26, 2016.<span class=\"credit\">Photo: Justin Merrimen<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Between 1960 and 2000, Westmoreland County Democrats handily won presidential races with one exception: Ronald Reagan\u2019s 1980 victory.<\/p>\n<p>By 1984, voters here were back to their Democratic allegiances, giving their votes to Walter Mondale, Michael Dukakis and Bill Clinton.<\/p>\n<p>When Al Gore turned the party toward its progressive wing in 2000, however, he left behind Westmoreland County Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats here are more traditional in their values \u2014 they are pro-gun, pro-life, pro-coal,\u00a0something today\u2019s Democratic Party has left no room for.<\/p>\n<p>Trump probably connects better with such voters than did Romney in 2012, or John McCain in 2008; a large part of the reason is his outside-the-box style.
