WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2014 Donald Trump addressed the recent flareup of \u201cbirtherism\u201d controversy on Friday at his brand new hotel in Washington, D.C., stating unequivocally that\u00a0President Barack Obama was born in the United States.<\/h2>\n

\u201cI finished it,\u201d Trump declared, charging that Hillary\u00a0Clinton started\u00a0the birther controversy.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Barack\u00a0Obama was born in the United States, period. Now, we all want to get back to making America strong and great again,\u201d Trump declared on Friday morning.<\/p>\n

Trump addressed the issue after a Washington Post<\/em> article<\/a> was published Thursday, questioning why he won\u2019t acknowledge that Obama was born in the United States.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrump refused to say whether he believes Obama was born in Hawaii,\u201d reported the Washington Post<\/em>\u2018s Robert Costa.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll answer that question at the right time,\u201d Trump told Costa. \u201cI just don\u2019t want to answer it yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2011, President Obama publicly released his birth certificate from the state of Hawaii in response to public pressure from Trump. Reporters Mark Halperin and John Heilemann said in their book Double Down: Game Change 2012<\/a><\/em> that Obama was forced to look through his mother\u2019s keepsakes to find the document. As reported by Breitbart News\u2019 Matthew Boyle:<\/p>\n

Halperin and Heilemann claim Obama literally spent that night in his Chicago home digging through old records to try to find some kind of proof he was born in Hawaii amid the belongings of his late mother, Ann Dunham.<\/p>\n

After Obama made the fundraising rounds throughout Chicago, \u201che avoided mentioning Trump,\u201d Halperin and Heilemann wrote, \u201cyet the issue remained much on his mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat confounded him about the problem, beyond its absurdity, was that there was no ready solution,\u201d they wrote. \u201cAlthough Trump was braying for his original long-form birth certificate, officials in Obama\u2019s home state were legally prohibited from releasing it on their own, and the president had no earthly idea where his family\u2019s copy was.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
