Ladies and gentlemen, it appears the long anticipated moment of peak mainstream media stupidity may have finally arrived.<\/p>\n
This is what passes for journalism in America today.<\/p>\n
The Intercept<\/em><\/a> reports:<\/p>\n Sen. Rand Paul\u2019s expression of opposition\u00a0to a $1.1 billion U.S. arms sale to Saudi Arabia \u2014 which has been brutally bombing civilian targets in Yemen using U.S.-made weapons for more than a year now \u2014 alarmed CNN\u2019s Wolf Blitzer on Thursday afternoon.<\/em><\/p>\n Blitzer\u2019s concern: That\u00a0stopping the sale could\u00a0result in fewer jobs for arms manufacturers.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cSo for you this is a moral issue,\u201d he told Paul during the Kentucky Republican\u2019s appearance on CNN. \u201cBecause you know, there\u2019s a lot of jobs at stake. Certainly if a lot of these defense contractors stop selling war planes, other sophisticated equipment to Saudi Arabia, there\u2019s gonna be a significant loss of jobs, of revenue here in the United States. That\u2019s secondary from your standpoint?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Paul stayed on message. \u00a0\u201cWell not only is it a moral question, its a Constitutional question,\u201d Paul said. \u201cOur founding fathers very directly and specifically did not give the president the power to go to war. They gave it to Congress. So Congress needs to step up and this is what I\u2019m doing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Saudi Arabia began bombing Yemen in March 2015, and has since been responsible for the majority of the\u00a010,000 deaths<\/a>\u00a0in the war so far. The U.S.-backed bombing coalition has been\u00a0accused of intentionally targeting civilians, hospitals, factories, markets, schools, and homes. The situation is so bad that the Red Cross has started\u00a0donating morgue units<\/a>\u00a0to Yemeni hospitals.<\/em><\/p>\n The Obama administration has\u00a0sold more weapons to the Saudis than any other administration,\u00a0pledging more than\u00a0$115 billion<\/a>\u00a0worth of small arms, tanks, helicopters, missiles, and aircraft.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n But hey, the Saudis aren\u2019t really that bad, right. No, they\u2019re just one of the most barbaric, inhumane terrorist supporting states on planet earth. Need some proof?<\/p>\n
