Now a former chair of the DNC says the Democrats must prepare a contingency plan<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/thelastgreatstand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/2.jpg\" target=\"\" rel=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-55092\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/thelastgreatstand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/2.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 444px) 100vw, 444px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/thelastgreatstand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/2.jpg 634w, http:\/\/thelastgreatstand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/2-300x198.jpg 300w\" alt=\"2\" width=\"444\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Plans: Don Fowler, who was DNC chair from 1995-1997, says the Democrats must work now to figure out how to elect a replacement for Clinton in case she drops out of the race<\/b><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FVDyciOQCak\" width=\"660\" height=\"460\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Clinton&#8217;s doctor confirmed on Sunday night the presidential candidate has pneumonia.<\/p>\n<p>She made the shocking announcement after video surfaced of the 68-year-old collapsing after abruptly leaving the 9\/11 memorial service in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/new_york\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><b>New York<\/b><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The result has left some members of the party \u2013 including Fowler \u2013 very nervous.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fowler said that he believes Clinton will get better, but that the risk of party-infighting just two months before the presidential election should be taken seriously.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It&#8217;s something you would be a fool not to prepare for,&#8217; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic Party&#8217;s rules allow for the DNC to name a replacement, but don&#8217;t provide many guidelines on how the process is to be performed.<\/p>\n<p>And strong support for Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders could lead to fractious arguments if a path forward is not clearly outlined.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I think you\u2019re likely to have at least discussions and perhaps controversy,&#8217; added Fowler.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/thelastgreatstand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/3.jpg\" target=\"\" rel=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-55093\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/thelastgreatstand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/3.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 444px) 100vw, 444px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/thelastgreatstand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/3.jpg 634w, http:\/\/thelastgreatstand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/3-300x172.jpg 300w\" alt=\"3\" width=\"444\" height=\"255\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Loyal: Fowler (center, at a DNC fundraiser) was the chair during Bill Clinton&#8217;s tenure as President, and has supported Hillary since 2008. But he says a plan is essential<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Instead, he argues, Barack Obama and other high-ranking Democrats should figure out now how a replacement for Clinton would be selected, and who that would be.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;There should be a concerted, unified effort on behalf of the president and the Democratic leaders in the House and the Senate and from the officials of the DNC as well \u2013 I think unanimity would be absolutely critical,&#8217; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The quicker that unanimity develops, the easier and better the process.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Clinton has put her campaign on hold and is resting in her Chappaqua, New York, home. Her husband will take over her campaigning duties for the time being.<\/p>\n<p>But if her condition deteriorates significantly, the Democratic Party may be forced to consider their options.<\/p>\n<p>In 1972, Sargent Shriver was selected to replace\u00a0Thomas Eagleton as George McGovern\u2019s vice presidential nominee, after Eagleton&#8217;s depression was deemed a threat to the public, should he take over as President.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the only time such a switch has been made in Democratic or Republican history.<\/p>\n<p>Should Clinton have to drop out of the race for the White House, here&#8217;s what will happen:<\/p>\n<p><b>Democratic National Committee bylaws would come into play<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The DNC&#8217;s guidelines\u00a0state that, if Clinton was to drop out, it would have to be completely her choice.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thelastgreatstand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/4.jpg\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-55102\" src=\"http:\/\/thelastgreatstand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/4.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 306px) 100vw, 306px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/thelastgreatstand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/4.jpg 306w, http:\/\/thelastgreatstand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/4-161x300.jpg 161w, http:\/\/thelastgreatstand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/4-300x560.jpg 300w\" alt=\"4\" width=\"306\" height=\"571\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Clinton is seen resting her hand on a child&#8217;s shoulder after leaving daughter Chelsea&#8217;s apartment on Sunday\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>If she confirmed she was stepping aside, senior party officials would hold an emergency meeting.<\/p>\n<p>A vote would then be organized among members, with the new name on the ticket having to be elected by a simple majority.<\/p>\n<p>But it is not clear when or how that would take place.<\/p>\n<p>It is likely the Democrats would do improvise slightly in order to choose another candidate.<\/p>\n<p>There would be no special preference given to any candidates who have already been involved in the process.<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic National Committee Bylaws read: &#8216;The foregoing notwithstanding, a special meeting to fill a vacancy on the National ticket shall be\u00a0held on the call of the Chairperson, who shall set the date for such meeting.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Then there would be a vote among members to fill the position on the national ticket. The winner would require a simple majority.<\/p>\n<p>However, all of the members who vote would have to be present when they handed over their ballot slips<\/p>\n<p>If one of \u00a0the Republican candidates died, their party would reconvene the convention.<\/p>\n<p><b>Could Congress push Election Day back?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Congress sets the date for the General Election. This year it is on November 8, or the Tuesday after the first Monday in November.<\/p>\n<p>They can vote to change the date to extend the time the Democrats have to decide on a candidate \u2013 or for Hillary to recover- \u00a0but it&#8217;s extremely unlikely.<\/p>\n<p>Voting laws \u2013 such as changing elections to weekends \u2013 have stalled in Congress frequently. States would also have to pass any regulations and would have to extend their voting regulations.<\/p>\n<p>There is also a strong Republican presence in Congress, and they may not want to pass a measure that gives the Democrats a chance of winning.<\/p>\n<p><b>Tim Kaine for President?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>As the United States Senator from Virginia already has a large donor base, there is a strong chance he would move up the ticket.<\/p>\n<p>He may then pick up running mate himself and carry on campaigning.<\/p>\n<p>However, members of the party would have to cast their vote to get him into that position.<\/p>\n<p>Kaine has no special consideration even though he is on the ticket.\u00a0If someone else is voted in, Kaine could still be the running mate<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/thelastgreatstand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/5.jpg\" target=\"\" rel=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-55094\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/thelastgreatstand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/5.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 507px) 100vw, 507px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/thelastgreatstand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/5.jpg 634w, http:\/\/thelastgreatstand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/5-300x216.jpg 300w\" alt=\"5\" width=\"507\" height=\"365\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>As running mate Tim Kaine already has a large donor base, there is a strong chance he would move up the ticket. However he has no special consideration over potential rivals\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>What about Joe Biden or Bernie Sanders?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Bernie Sanders was Clinton&#8217;s most viable and strongest opponent during the campaign, while Joe Biden has always been a favorite of the Democratic hopefuls.<\/p>\n<p>Arguably, as two of the more recognized Democrats, they could drum up more support during the general election.<\/p>\n<p>However, they would still have to be picked by members.<\/p>\n<p>Biden has previously stated he didn&#8217;t want to run. She won, and served for two years in his place.<\/p>\n<p>Future Senator Olympia Snowe first entered politics after the death of her husband, a Maine state representative, in a car wreck.<\/p>\n<p>Former U.S. Representative for California Mary Bono\u2019s long political career began when her husband Sonny died in a skiing incident.<\/p>\n<p>She was first elected to Congress just weeks after her husband died.<\/p>\n<p>But Hillary&#8217;s husband Bill is prevented from running because of The 22nd Amendment \u2013 stating no President can be elected to more than two terms.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, Chelsea could take her place. It would kill him in 1945, just a year into his third term<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Does it depend how quickly she recovers from pneumonia?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Pneumonia is commonly treated quickly and effectively with antibiotics.<\/p>\n<p>Doctors suggest it takes around a week to get over the worst of the symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>If she was considering stepping aside from the campaign, she would have to choose at least a month before.<\/p>\n<p>This would allow the DNC to go through with the voting process.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease expert at Vanderbilt University, said\u00a0patients with a mild pneumonia can recover with antibiotics, a few days of rest and good hydration.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s especially true of someone who does strenuous work, such as a rigorous campaign schedule.<\/p>\n<p>But Clinton does need to take it seriously, some experts said.<\/p>\n<p>People over age 65 have a harder time returning to normal than do younger patients.<\/p>\n<p>Many people her age need a week or more to recover from even a mild case of pneumonia, said Dr Sharon Bergquist, an Emory University assistant professor of medicine who specializes in internal medicine.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The body needs rest. of the concussion&#8217;s effects, including double vision, for which Clinton wore glasses with specialized lenses to address.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Other details from Bardack&#8217;s letter included:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u2013 Clinton&#8217;s blood pressure was 100 over 65<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u2013 Her total cholesterol was 195;
