Don\u2019t believe everything you read on Google about Hillary Clinton\u2019s health<\/h2>\n

If you search for \u201cHillary Clinton\u201d and \u201chealth\u201d on Google, you\u2019re likely to come up with some pretty terrifying stuff \u2014 and much of it is false.\u00a0Photos of the 68-year-old Democratic presidential nominee apparently so\u00a0weak that she has to be\u00a0helped up a short flight of\u00a0stairs by aides. Speculation that the\u00a0head injury she suffered in 2012\u00a0is still affecting her.\u00a0Documents purportedly summarizing\u00a0visits to a medical provider for an unspecified illness.<\/p>\n

Whether you think it\u2019s fair or not, Clinton\u2019s\u00a0health is becoming an issue in the campaign and it\u2019s almost impossible for the average person\u00a0to sort through the\u00a0misinformation and fake information online to get to the real facts.<\/p>\n

For the record, Clinton has\u00a0released a letter from her\u00a0personal physicians attesting to her\u00a0good health and fitness to\u00a0serve as president of the United States, should she be elected.\u00a0(Clinton\u2019s Republican rival, Donald\u00a0Trump, who appears to be healthy, has done the same, although\u00a0the letter is highly unusual<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Also for the record,\u00a0the photos of her being helped up the stairs aren\u2019t recent but from months ago; her doctor has specifically addressed the issue of lingering effects of the old accident on her brain (there are none); and those papers \u2014 which appeared, then disappeared \u2014 were apparently\u00a0forgeries.<\/p>\n

That hasn\u2019t stopped some critics of Clinton from seizing on the rumors to portray her as being in poor\u00a0health.\u00a0Rudy Giuliani urged people to\u00a0\u201cGo online and put down, \u2018Hillary Clinton illness,\u2019 and take a look at the videos yourself.\u201d Fox News\u00a0host Sean Hannity has described Clinton shaking her head as \u201calmost seems seizure-esque to me.\u201d And who can forget Trump’s allegations that \u201cshe took a short-circuit in the brain\u201d?<\/p>\n

From the days of\u00a0Woodrow Wilson<\/a> (whose failing\u00a0health was concealed by his inner circle of advisers) and Franklin Roosevelt (who despite\u00a0his weight loss and weakness ran\u00a0for his fourth and final term),\u00a0the\u00a0health of presidential candidates and presidents has long been a source of public interest and debate.\u00a0In 1999, when John McCain first ran for the highest office, he made public\u00a01,500 pages of medical and psychiatric records. Then in 2008, after he had been diagnosed and treated for cancer, McCain allowed reporters to review even more records to\u00a0confirm that he was cancer-free. During the\u00a02004 campaign, George W. Bush released records that showed, among other things, extensive dental work.<\/p>\n
