By Wednesday morning, it had burned 30,000 acres, with firefighters unable to contain any of it, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It hit hard, it hit fast, with an intensity that we&#8217;ve never seen before,&#8221; San Bernardino County Fire Chief Mart Hartwig told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>He warned that many families will return home &#8220;to nothing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>San Bernardino National Forest spokesman John Miller described the conditions as &#8220;explosive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Anderson told The Associated Press.<\/p>\n<p>The destruction included a landmark restaurant, the Summit Inn in Hesperia, whose owner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Summit-Inn-Restaurant-115850835101886\/\">posted to Facebook<\/a> a photo of it on fire.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/news\/local\/Firefighters-Battle-Brush-Fire-Near-I-15-in-Devore-390340002.html\">Full coverage of Blue Cut fire at NBC Los Angeles<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Two firefighters were hurt and briefly hospitalized when they became trapped while defending homes and assisting evacuations in the Swarthout Canyon area, <a href=\"http:\/\/inciweb.nwcg.gov\/incident\/article\/4962\/32563\/\">San Bernardino Fire Department said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The fire was zero percent contained and covered 28 square miles at 11 p.m. PT (2 a.m. ET) \u2014 only 12 hours after it began \u2014 according to CalFire.<\/p>\n<p>The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning through Thursday night, saying strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures meant &#8220;critical fire weather conditions&#8221; she said. &#8220;This was the time for me to go.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Another evacuated resident, John Goodfried, told KNBC he watched air tankers flying missions over the blaze.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If the smoke is heavy and thick and black you know it&#8217;s burning something,&#8221;
