Richard Hanna (N.Y.).<\/p>\n<p>A Clinton aide said each defection could cause a domino effect of sorts, allowing for other rank and file Republicans to endorse Clinton.<\/p>\n<p>And one Clinton ally\u00a0noted that the GOP diaspora has less to do with an affecting among GOP voters for Clinton, and more about distaste for Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t have to do much,\u201d\u00a0the ally\u00a0said. \u201c<span class=\"rollover-people\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/donald-trump\" data-nid=\"261287\">Donald Trump<\/a><\/span> is doing all the work for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clinton has sought to take advantage of the issue.<\/p>\n<p>During the Democratic National Convention, she seized on Republican themes and values.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dWe have the most powerful military,\u201d she said. \u201cThe most innovative entrepreneurs. The most enduring values \u2014 freedom and equality, justice and opportunity. We should be so proud that these words are associated with us. That when people hear them, they hear America.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Clinton campaign is running an ad that features criticisms of Trump from former Republican office holders and conservative commentators \u2014 a clear effort to win over rank-and-file GOP voters.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent address, Clinton\u00a0also\u00a0argued that Trump was \u201cunfit\u201d to be president and couldn\u2019t be trusted with the nuclear codes.<\/p>\n<p>Republican strategist Ron Bonjean, who hasn&#8217;t endorsed Trump yet, never thought he\u2019d see the day when solid-red Republicans were committing to Clinton. But he says Trump has pushed some in his party over the edge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe hasn&#8217;t made the case that he will take the governance part seriously,\u201d Bonjean said.<\/p>\n<p>He and other Republicans still think there\u2019s a chance that Trump can stop the bleeding, however.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf he begins to right the ship and focuses fire on Hillary Clinton instead of inter party fighting or picking on gold star families, that may convince some Republicans to give him a chance,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans have\u00a0crossed\u00a0the aisle to vote for Democratic presidential candidates in the past.<\/p>\n<p>Former Secretary of State Colin Powell endorsed President Obama days before the 2008 election over Sen. <span class=\"rollover-people\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/john-mccain\" data-nid=\"188278\">John McCain<\/a><\/span> (R-Ariz.).<\/p>\n<p>So did former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld, who this year is running as the vice presidential candidate on the Libertarian Party ticket.<\/p>\n<p>While Clinton moved to the left in the Democratic primary as she was challenged by Sen. <span class=\"rollover-people\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/bernie-sanders\" data-nid=\"188217\">Bernie Sanders<\/a><\/span> (I-Vt.), she has a centrist reputation and a history of working with Republicans in Congress.<\/p>\n<p>On issues of foreign policy and national security, she is seen as a hawk given her support for the Iraq War. She was also an advocate for muscular action against Syria within the Obama administration.<\/p>\n<p>Such positions could be attractive to Republican voters, particularly given Trump\u2019s criticism of GOP foreign policy leaders \u2014 including former President George W.
