{"id":41552,"date":"2016-06-29T19:55:44","date_gmt":"2016-06-29T23:55:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=41552"},"modified":"2016-06-29T20:12:08","modified_gmt":"2016-06-30T00:12:08","slug":"will-2016-be-the-year-of-the-third-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=41552","title":{"rendered":"Will 2016 Be the Year of the Third Party?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more-->Wilsonville, Oregon<br \/>\nJune 29, 2016<\/p>\n<p>by Rich Scheck<\/p>\n<p>Those who are familiar with my essays are aware that I have been<br \/>\npromoting the need for a new political party for over 4 decades.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=38529\">https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=38529<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s news is filled with articles by those who are describing<br \/>\nthe need to challenge what Eric Zeusse calls &#8220;Americas One-Party<br \/>\nGovernment.&#8221;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.informationclearinghouse.info\/article44988.htm\">http:\/\/www.informationclearinghouse.info\/article44988.htm<\/a>.<br \/>\nOthers have called what we currently have the &#8220;bipartisan oligarchy&#8221; led<br \/>\nby those David Stockman calls &#8220;hyper-interventionists!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bernie Sanders seems to have some fantasy that he can still<br \/>\ntransform the Democratic Party from within while he continues<br \/>\nplaying footsie with its nominee who represents everything<br \/>\nhe claims to be against: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/06\/29\/opinion\/campaign-stops\/bernie-sanders-democrats-need-to-wake-up.html?_r=1\">http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/06\/29\/opinion\/campaign-stops\/bernie-sanders-democrats-need-to-wake-up.html?_r=1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But with voters hungry for an alternative and with attractive third<br \/>\nparty choices available, 2016 could finally be the year when a<br \/>\nviable new party finally emerges out of the chaos.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.informationclearinghouse.info\/article44990.htm\">http:\/\/www.informationclearinghouse.info\/article44990.htm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I would argue that to the extent Trump has captured the\u00a0Republican Party and the Sanders insurgency basically undermined the traditional leadership of the Democrats,\u00a0we may have four third-party groupings in November:<br \/>\n1. Trump\/neo-Republicans;<br \/>\n2. Hillary\/Sanders neo-Democrats;<br \/>\n3. Jill Stein\/Green Party and<br \/>\n4. Gary\u00a0Johnson\/Libertarian Party\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.informationclearinghouse.info\/article44993.htm\">http:\/\/www.informationclearinghouse.info\/article44993.htm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For me, Sanders has it right when he states we need a<br \/>\npresident who &#8220;decreases the possibility of war!&#8221; Yet in<br \/>\npicking to back someone who has irresponsibly labeled<br \/>\nVladimir Putin as the new Hitler and whose entire career<br \/>\nhas been based on promoting US wars of aggression,<br \/>\nBernie falls far promoting that goal.<\/p>\n<p>As Gareth Porter states clearly in his essay, the Sanders<br \/>\n&#8220;revolution&#8221; must take on the permanent war state.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.truth-out.org\/opinion\/item\/36603-why-the-sanders-revolution-must-take-on-the-permanent-war-state\">http:\/\/www.truth-out.org\/opinion\/item\/36603-why-the-sanders-revolution-must-take-on-the-permanent-war-state<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In my opinion, his failure to do so during his campaign is why he<br \/>\nlost to Hillary. It will be interesting to see which of these four leaders<br \/>\nemerge as the biggest anti-war candidate.<\/p>\n<p>No matter how you slice it, this is the year of the disaffected<br \/>\nvoter&#8230;whether here, in England with the <em>BREXIT<\/em> and elsewhere<br \/>\nacross the globe.<\/p>\n<p>Change has finally arrived as long predicted as inevitable by<br \/>\nme and many others.
