I did not have a negative experience with Donald Trump,\u201d Rowanne Brewer Lane told \u201cFox &amp; Friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lane briefly dated Trump after the 1990 encounter described in the Times article. But the way she described their relationship and that encounter on Monday was much different than the way it was portrayed in the front-page weekend article that ran under the explosive headline, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/05\/15\/us\/politics\/donald-trump-women.html?hp&amp;action=click&amp;pgtype=Homepage&amp;clickSource=story-heading&amp;module=photo-spot-region&amp;region=top-news&amp;WT.nav=top-news&amp;_r=1\" target=\"_blank\">Crossing the Line<\/a>: How Donald Trump Behaved with Women in Private.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The article opens by describing how Lane, then 26 years old, met Trump at a pool party at Mar-a-Lago, Trump&#8217;s Palm Beach, Fla., estate. According to the piece, Trump had barely met her \u201cwhen he asked her to change out of her clothes.\u201d He gave her a bikini, which she changed into. Lane is quoted as saying, \u201cHe brought me out to the pool and said, \u2018That is a stunning Trump girl, isn\u2019t it?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Times goes on to describe the incident as \u201ca debasing face-to-face encounter between Mr. Trump and a young woman he hardly knew.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Lane told Fox News that was not the case.<\/p>\n<article>\n<div class=\"article-text\">\n<p>\u201cHe never made me feel like I was being demeaned in any way,\u201d she said, calling the article \u201cvery upsetting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe New York Times told us several times that they would make sure that my story that I was telling came across \u2026 that it would not be a hit piece,\u201d she said. \u201cThat my story would come across the way that I was telling it \u2026 and it absolutely was not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lane said she did in fact meet Trump at that pool party, but said he had simply offered her a swimsuit \u2013 she said \u201cokay,\u201d since she hadn\u2019t brought one.<\/p>\n<p>As for Trump\u2019s comment about her being \u201cstunning,\u201d she said, \u201cI was actually flattered\u201d by that, not demeaned. \u201cThat\u2019s what I told the Times and they spun it completely differently.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She described the now-presumptive GOP presidential nominee as a \u201cgentleman\u201d and said she planned to support him in the election.<\/p>\n<div class=\"m video-ct\" data-video-id=\"4895786840001\"><\/div>\n<p>The Times reporters, meanwhile, defended their story on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think readers of the story can digest what happened to her at Mar-a-Lago,\u201d reporter Michael Barbaro said on CBS\u2019 \u201cThis Morning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cRecall in my interview with her \u2026 she basically expressed that \u2018I was taken aback by this.\u2019 And I think that\u2019s how we depicted it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe gathered a variety of voices. And our story is not just Rowanne\u2019s account. It\u2019s the experience of many women,\u201d reporter Megan Twohey said on the same program. According to the article, the reporters interviewed dozens of women who had worked for, dated or interacted with Trump.<\/p>\n<p>In a written statement, a New York Times spokesperson also said: &#8220;Ms. Brewer Lane was quoted fairly, accurately and at length. <a href=\"http:\/\/urldefense.proofpoint.com\/v2\/url?u=http-3A__www.nytimes.com_2016_05_15_us_politics_donald-2Dtrump-2Dwomen.html-3Fref-3Dpolitics-26-5Fr-3D0&amp;d=DQMFaQ&amp;c=cnx1hdOQtepEQkpermZGwQ&amp;r=UZklG1FYw__QksJUrESJf4aXgCdPYHOrWs8QzbIX9vM&amp;m=hRq22B2NsxhQtphJiWDs8WFxfE9g9xyB5ZG7IUxNtuk&amp;s=uPU23-fY2Fni21zHD-OVQGAcN-HQgqbxfiS6GZjdeDc&amp;e=\" target=\"_blank\">The story<\/a> provides context for the reader including that the\u00a0swimsuit scene was the &#8216;start of a whirlwind romance&#8217; between Ms. Brewer Lane and Mr. Trump.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Trump, though, took to Twitter to hammer the Times over the piece, following Lane&#8217;s comments on Fox News.\u00a0Trump initially misspelled Lane\u2019s first name as &#8220;Roseanne,&#8221; before correcting himself.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nytimes?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@nytimes<\/a> is so dishonest.
