Trump wouldn\u2019t rule out removing the House speaker from his role as GOP convention chair if he doesn\u2019t get an endorsement.<\/h3>\n

WASHINGTON \u2014 GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump on Sunday suggested that House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) would face consequences for not endorsing the businessman as the party\u2019s presidential nominee.\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking with NBC\u2019s Chuck Todd,\u00a0Trump would not rule out trying to remove the Wisconsin congressman from his post as chair of this summer\u2019s GOP convention, a role traditionally granted to the speaker of the House<\/span><\/a>, if Ryan did not come around.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf he can\u2019t endorse you, do you think he should be chair of the Convention?\u201d Todd asked.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to mention it now. I\u2019ll see after,\u201d Trump said. \u201cI will give you a very solid answer, if that happens, about one minute after that happens. Okay? But there\u2019s no reason to give it right now. But I\u2019ll be very quick with the answer. Let\u2019s see what happens.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The growing feud stems from Ryan\u2019s announcement Thursday that he is not prepared to endorse Trump<\/span><\/a>\u00a0for president, after his two remaining opponents, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R), exited the race and cleared the way for the real estate mogul to claim the nomination.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just not ready to do that at this point. I\u2019m not there yet,\u201d Ryan said, adding that he hopes to endorse his party\u2019s nominee but needs to be convinced that the GOP can elect a\u00a0\u201cstandard-bearer that bears our standards.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Trump responded with a statement saying he is \u201cnot ready to support Speaker Ryan\u2019s agenda.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On Sunday, Trump told Todd that he felt like Ryan \u201cblindsided\u201d\u00a0him.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAll of a sudden, he gets on and he does this number. So I\u2019m not exactly sure what he has in mind,\u201d Trump said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ryan and Trump will meet on Capitol Hill this Thursday in an attempt to defuse tensions.<\/span><\/p>\n

While Trump declined to issue a specific threat against Ryan,\u00a0former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R), a Trump supporter<\/span><\/a>, was more explicit, telling CNN on Sunday that she is backing Ryan\u2019s primary challenger<\/span><\/a> in his upcoming House election.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think Paul Ryan is soon to be \u2018Cantored,\u2019 as in Eric Cantor,\u201d she told CNN, referring to the former Republican House majority leader who in 2014\u00a0unexpectedly lost his primary to tea party challenger Dave Brat<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She called Ryan\u2019s reluctance to support Trump \u201cnot a wise decision.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Trump said he was relatively unfazed by Ryan\u2019s statements because he expects the party to unite around him at the convention.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think it hurts me at all. And I\u2019d like to have his support, but if he doesn\u2019t want to support me, that\u2019s fine,\u201d Trump said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLook, I\u2019m going to get millions and millions of votes more than the Republicans would have gotten,\u201d he continued. \u201cIf you look at the numbers, I think right now, or I will be this week or next week, in the history of the Republican Party, nobody has ever gotten so many votes as I have. I\u2019ve beaten Eisenhower and Nixon and Reagan and everybody. And we have a tremendous group of people that\u2019s voting.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
