{"id":32837,"date":"2016-03-03T14:34:43","date_gmt":"2016-03-03T18:34:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=32837"},"modified":"2016-03-03T14:34:43","modified_gmt":"2016-03-03T18:34:43","slug":"jesse-ventura-says-he-might-run-for-president-if-bernie-sanders-isnt-nominated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=32837","title":{"rendered":"Jesse Ventura Says He Might Run For President If Bernie Sanders Isn&#8217;t Nominated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more-->by Barry Donegan<br \/>\nTheAntiMedia.org<\/p>\n<p>Former independent Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura, who says he is leaning towards supporting U.S. Senator from Vermont Bernie Sanders for president in 2016, indicated that he is <strong>considering\u00a0getting into the presidential race if Sanders fails to win the Democratic primary.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a Monday interview with The Daily Beast, Ventura <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/articles\/2016\/02\/29\/jesse-ventura-i-ll-run-for-president-if-bernie-loses.html\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a> that he will likely launch a run for president by June if former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton defeats Sanders.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"quote_start\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"quote_end\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>\u201c<em>They\u2019re setting the groundwork for me because if Bernie loses, by the time we get to June, how sick are the people going to be of all these people<\/em>,\u201d<\/strong> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ventura has claimed\u00a0in the past that he might <strong>seek the Libertarian Party\u2019s nomination<\/strong>for president and said that he considers former Republican New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Party\u2019s best-known currently-announced candidate, a personal friend. The Libertarian Party\u2019s nominating convention is set to take place in May of this year.<\/p>\n<p data-mediaconductor-processed=\"true\">Last year, Gary Johnson <a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2015\/04\/08\/gary-johnson-preparing-to-run-for-president-in-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a> in an interview with The Daily Caller that he would welcome a head-to-head matchup against Ventura for the Libertarian Party\u2019s nomination \u201c<em>because that potentially could be a televised-kind-of-a-debate situation.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dianomi.com\/smartads.epl?id=2381\" width=\"100%\" height=\"114\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"NO\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In a Monday interview with The Associated Press, Ventura <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twincities.com\/2016\/02\/29\/jesse-ventura\/\" target=\"_blank\">described<\/a>\u00a0the conditions under which he would be most likely to run for president,<strong> \u201c<em>If it\u2019s Hillary Clinton and Marco Rubio, the chances are better.\u00a0I don\u2019t want the revolution to die if Bernie gets beat.<\/em>\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, while Ventura has stopped short of fully endorsing any particular candidate during the primary season, he says he is somewhat torn between Trump and Sanders when trying to identify a favorite.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"quote_start\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"quote_end\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201c<em>People give them no PAC money, no special interest money.\u00a0To me, that\u2019s the most important thing<\/em>,\u201d said Ventura.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>See, <strong>I\u2019m an independent and I despise the two parties.\u00a0<\/strong>I love what Trump\u2019s doing to the Republicans. He\u2019s got them in complete disarray. In fact, it looks like the WWE when you watch their debates<\/em>,\u201d the former\u00a0pro wrestler\u00a0added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>However, Ventura said that he<strong> leans more towards Sanders than Trump <\/strong>due to the Senator from Vermont\u2019s positions on campaign finance reform, foreign policy, and ending the War on Drugs.
