An undercover sting of Common Core book publishers revealed insiders who \u201chate kids\u201d and push a \u201cbulls\u2013t\u201d system to \u201csell books.\u201d<\/p>\n
Conservative activist James O\u2019Keefe of Project Veritas released video on Tuesday of a New York City teacher and a former accounts manager at publisher Houghton Mifflin who describe the system as a giant money grab.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou don\u2019t think that the educational publishing companies are in it for the education, do you?\u201d said Dianne Barrow, an ex-Houghton Mifflin employee, the Hill<\/a> reported. \u201cNo, they\u2019re in it for the money.\u201d<\/p>\n When O\u2019Keefe tries to tell Barrow she seems like a woman who is \u201cin it for the kids\u201d she throws her head back, cackles, and says, \u201cI hate kids. \u2026 I\u2019m in it to sell books. Don\u2019t even kid yourself for a heartbeat.\u201d<\/p>\n Project Veritas also taped a Brooklyn, New York, school teacher identified as Jodi Cohen talking about Common Core standards, which are used in more than 40 states.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a joke. \u2026 It\u2019s bulls\u2013t. The thing is, what they do is they create some new f\u2013king system that f\u2013king sucks to sell more books, and then we have to learn something new with the students,\u201d Cohen said, the Daily Mail<\/a> reported Monday.<\/p>\n O\u2019Keefe told the newspaper he \u201chopes and prays\u201d Common Core advocates say his videos are isolated incidents because he has more to release.<\/p>\n \u201cThis video provides confirmation that Common Core is broken, rotten and corrupt \u2013 including the textbook publishers, government education officials and the politicians who should be held accountable for enabling this system in the first place,\u201d O\u2019Keefe said.<\/p>\n New York school teacher Jodi Cohen tells Project Veritas that Common Core is a \u201cjoke.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n Linda Zecher, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt\u2019s CEO, told the newspaper that Barrow, who worked for the company for less than one year, does not represent 4,000 employees who \u201cdedicate their lives to serving teachers and students every day.\u201d<\/p>\n Critics of Common Core say the system unnecessarily makes math problems complicated, erroneously applies a \u201cone-size-fits-all\u201d to a complex problem, and robs parents of education choices.<\/p>\n \u201cCommon Core has to be ended. It\u2019s a disaster,\u201d Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump said<\/a> July 18, 2015, at the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa. \u201cIt\u2019s a way of taking care of the people in Washington that, frankly, I don\u2019t even think they give a damn about education, half of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/a>
