A prominent neocon and senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, Max Boot, has denounced Trump as a fascist.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Trump is a fascist. Adelson has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to influence the outcome of elections. \u201cRubio looks, walks, and quacks like a dyed-in-the-wool neocon,\u201d writes the quasi-libertarian organization, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usnews.com\/opinion\/blogs\/world-report\/2013\/03\/26\/rand-paul-gets-foreign-policy-right-while-rubio-calls-for-war\">Cato<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/magazine\/story\/2015\/12\/donald-trump-2016-third-party-bid-213449\">Jeff Greenfield<\/a>, writing for Politico, notes the most vociferous Trump opponents hail from the neocon wing of the party. He believes \u201cTrump running as a Republican could well face a third-party run\u2014from the Republicans themselves\u2026 If you want to see the most sulfurous assaults on Trump, don\u2019t look to the editorial pages of the New York Times or the comments of MSNBC personalities; look instead to the most prominent media voices in the conservative world: National Review, The Weekly Standard, Commentary and the columns of George Will and others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">While third party candidates have fared poorly in national elections, the possibility of one capturing a key swing state like Florida would deny an establishment party candidate from taking the 270 Electoral College votes required to win the presidency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Constitution specifies that after a deadlocked election a vote must be held in the House of Representatives as a new session of Congress begins.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It is doubtful the neocon wing of the Republican party will be able to muster support to establish a third party powerful enough to beat Hillary Clinton. Democrats fear Bernie Sanders will form a third party after he is trounced in the primaries and this will pull a significant number of Democrats away from the party and give an advantage to the Republican candidate. However, fear of a Republican victory\u2014especially the fear of a Trump victory\u2014will undoubtedly bring a large number of Democrats back into the fold for the express purpose of defeating Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In July 2014 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/07\/06\/opinion\/sunday\/are-neocons-getting-ready-to-ally-with-hillary-clinton.html?_r=0\">The New York Times<\/a> speculated the neocons may ultimately align themselves with Clinton. Boot remarked \u201cit is clear that in administration councils she was a principled voice for a strong stand on controversial issues, whether supporting the Afghan surge or the intervention in Libya.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In November Kentucky Senator and Republican candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/rand-paul-hillary-clinton-is-a-neocon\/article\/2575852\">Rand Paul<\/a>characterized Clinton as a neocon. \u201cI think Hillary Clinton is a neocon,\u201d Paul told MSNBC\u2019s Chris Matthews.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cShe supported the war in Iraq, in Afghanistan\u2026 If Hillary Clinton is president, we will be back at war in the Middle East.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This is precisely what the establishment neocons hope for\u2014a continuation of war in the Middle East and a revival of the Bush doctrine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe have done a tremendous disservice not only to the Middle East\u2014we\u2019ve done a tremendous disservice to humanity,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/donald-trump-middle-east_5671f199e4b0688701dc37fb\">Trump said during the Republican debate<\/a>. \u201cThe people that have been killed, the people that have been wiped away, and for what? It\u2019s not like we had victory. It\u2019s a mess.
