Donald Trump (Photo: CNN screenshot)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Donald Trump only needed a single Yiddish word for the mainstream media to once again go apoplectic over his campaign: \u201cSchlong.\u201d<\/p>\n The Republican presidential front-runner unleashed an attack line against Hillary Clinton Monday night that had media outlets essentially framing it as a \u201cmacaca\u201d moment. Former Virginia Sen.\u00a0George Allen\u2019s 2008 presidential bid imploded after he called an opposition researcher \u201cmacaca.\u201d<\/p>\n Like the reporting you see here? I don\u2019t know who would be worse, I don\u2019t know, how could it be worse? But she was going to beat \u2013 she was favored to win \u2013 and she got schlonged, she lost, I mean she lost,\u201d Trump told an audience in Grand Rapids, Michigan.<\/p>\n A litany of media outlets rushed to condemn Trump\u2019s remarks. Some of the headlines include:<\/p>\n Fox News decided to censor the word on its broadcasts as anchor Shepard Smith (who once had to apologize for saying \u201cf\u2013k\u201d on live television), announced, \u201cDonald Trump is not backing down \u2026 using a crude and vulgar word we will not repeat on television and won\u2019t even allow him to say. \u2026 Trump got personal, very personal. The word we bleeped I\u2019ve never heard before used as a verb,\u201d added Smith.<\/p>\n Radio host Rush Limbaugh said the outrage surrounding Trump\u2019s comments seemed unwarranted.<\/p>\n \u201cTrump was saying Hillary got shafted by Obama. It\u2019s no more complicated that,\u201d Limbaugh said<\/a> Tuesday. \u201cShe got schlonged, she got shafted. Don\u2019t wait for the media to explain it to you. They\u2019re so far up the reservation on this. They\u2019re looking for dirt where there isn\u2019t any dirt. They\u2019re looking for something to discredit. He just said she got shafted by Obama. It happens to be true. It\u2019s more newsworthy than simply saying she got beat. She got schlonged. She got shafted. Makes perfect sense to those of us who know.\u201d<\/p>\n He added, \u201cI never imagined 27 years ago, 30 years, I never, ever imagined I\u2019d be discussing \u2018schlonged\u2019 on the radio, especially during Christmas week, but, I mean, it\u2019s an indication of where our culture has gone.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe Death of Free Speech: How Our Broken National Dialogue Has Killed the Truth and Divided America\u201d examines how the news media has created arbitrary, biased and illogical rules for determining what can and cannot be said in the public arena.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n Harvard University\u2019s Steven Pinker, a researcher on language and cognition, told the Washington Post<\/a> it was possible Trump misspoke.<\/p>\n \u201cHeadline writers often ransack the language for onomatopoeic synonyms for \u2018defeat\u2019 such as drub, whomp, thump, wallop, whack, trounce, clobber, smash, trample, and Obama\u2019s own favorite, shellac (which in fact sounds a bit like schlong). So an alternative explanation is that Trump reached for what he thought was a Yinglish word for \u2018beat\u2019 and inadvertently coined an obscene one,\u201d Pinker told the newspaper.<\/p>\n Clinton campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Palmieri did not interpret Trump\u2019s wording as an accident. Trump has led in national polls since August despite claims his rhetoric on illegal immigration, radical Islamic terrorists and President Obama\u2019s refugee program would sink his campaign.<\/p>\n A Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday shows Trump still leading nationally with primary voters at 28 percent to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz\u2019s 24 percent.<\/p>\n Pollsters interviewed 508 Republicans from Dec. 16 through Dec. 20 for their survey, which has a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.<\/p>\n — ELECTION 2016 JUST NUTS!
