Moscow on Wednesday upped the ante against the Islamic State<\/a> by firing several rounds of missiles from its submarine for the first time.<\/p>\n

Russia\u2019s latest strikes hit \u201c300 targets of different kinds\u201d in the past three days and has helped Syrian special forces recover the black box of the Russian warplane downed by Turkey last month, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe used Calibre cruise missiles from the (Kilo-class) Rostov-on-Don submarine from the Mediterranean Sea,\u201d Shoigu told President Vladimir Putin during an encounter broadcast on state television. \u201cAs a result of the successful launches by the aviation and submarine fleet, all targets were destroyed,\u201d Shoigu said, adding that oil infrastructure, ammunition depots and a mine-making factory had been hit in the strikes.<\/p>\n
