GOP CHAIRMAN: MITCH MCCONNELL \u2018NEEDS TO RESIGN\u2019<\/h1>\n

A senior Republican official is urging Kentucky\u00a0to resign from his job as the Republican leader of the Senate.<\/p>\n

\u201cMitch is a good and honorable guy, but the base is leaving our party,\u201d Roger Villere, the chairman of the Louisiana GOP<\/a>, told the Washington Times<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve worked for 12 years as chairman to build this party, and I just don\u2019t want to see it all go down the drain because the [leaders] aren\u2019t willing to fight for what we believe\u2026 Our base is demanding we do something or they\u2019re going to leave us,\u201d said Villare, who also holds a position at the Republican National Committee.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe GOP brand is being damaged\u2026 everybody is so furious at the leadership,\u201d Villere said.<\/p>\n

Villere made his statements after posting a Friday\u00a0message on Facebook: \u201cMcConnell needs to resign!!\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0base\u2019s anger helped push House Speaker\u00a0to announce he will leave Congress at the end of October.<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, I haven really thought of a replacement\u2026 [Villare said] We are being so beat up by the base. I just was frustrated.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. McConnell could have suspended consideration of confirmations for all presidential appointees, except for those who are essential to national security, until the president rescinded his unconstitutional executive action on amnesty.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis would have been a constitutionally appropriate response to the overreach of the executive branch,\u201d he said. \u201cIt would have transformed the political environment, greatly encouraged Republican donors and grass-roots activists, and positioned us to refuse to confirm replacements for any Supreme Court openings that might occur during the remainder of the Obama administration.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot trying to repeal Obamacare, not defunding Planned Parenthood, not trying to stop illegal immigration\u2026 That is what Republicans ran on and once they were elected\u00a0they did not follow up with their promises.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
