Jim Carrey i<\/strong>s speaking out against new legislation requiring all public school children in California to be vaccinated<\/a> starting in 2016.<\/p>\n

Carrey, who has been an outspoken critic of vaccinations, said Gov. Jerry Brown<\/strong> needed to be stopped.<\/p>\n

“California Gov says yes to poisoning more children with mercury and aluminum in manditory\u00a0[sic] vaccines. This corporate fascist must be stopped,” Carrey tweeted of Brown, who signed the legislation Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The new legislation removes personal belief exemptions to vaccinations for religious reasons. Carrey\u00a0was once in a relationship with Jenny McCarthy<\/strong>, the public face of the anti-vaccination movement. She has said her son developed autism after receiving a vaccination.<\/p>\n

Fellow celebrities have also\u00a0voiced their displeasure with the law, taking to Twitter to retweet\u00a0those voicing similar positions and writing their own opinions condemning the compulsory\u00a0vaccination policy.<\/p>\n

Amongst those throwing their weight behind Carrey are Kirstie Alley<\/strong>, who emphasized the “SIXTY-FIVE VACCINES” the law makes mandatory for families and their children. Others, such as fellow Scientologists\u00a0Jenna Elfman<\/strong> and Danny Masterson<\/strong>, as well as actress Selma Blair<\/strong> and noted activist Erin Brockovich<\/strong>, clarified that though they\u00a0aren’t necessarily anti-vaccine, they feel the law is an egregious case of government overreach and suppression of parental rights. A petition asking Brown to repeal the law has been gaining steam, with both Blair and Masterson sharing it on Twitter. Thus far, it has nearly reached its goal of 100,000 signatures.<\/p>\n
