Today marked the first public testimony after weeks of hearings conducted in private.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Jim_Jordan?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Jim_Jordan<\/a>: You didn\u2019t listen in on President Trump &amp; Zelensky\u2019s call?<\/p>\n<p>Taylor: I did not.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan: You\u2019ve never talked with Chief of Staff Mulvaney?<\/p>\n<p>Taylor: I never did.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan: You\u2019ve never met the President?<\/p>\n<p>Taylor: That\u2019s correct.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan: And you\u2019re their star witness. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ebZ6jsEjeB\">pic.twitter.com\/ebZ6jsEjeB<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Kevin McCarthy (@SpeakerMcCarthy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpeakerMcCarthy\/status\/1194691072485732353?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 13, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Speaker Adam Schiff (D-CA) and his fellow Democrats spent much of the day\u00a0<strong>trying to coax damning testimony out of Ambassador Bill Taylor and top State Department official George Kent<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; only to come up empty handed over whether President Trump conditioned US military aid to Ukraine on an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.<\/p>\n<p>What we\u00a0<em>did<\/em>\u00a0learn is that\u00a0<strong>US officials, including Kent, &#8220;constantly&#8221; pushed Ukraine to reopen a &#8220;scuttled investigation&#8221; into the owner of a Ukrainian gas company, Burisma Holdings<\/strong>, which was hired then-Vice President Joe Biden&#8217;s son to sit on their board in 2014.<\/p>\n<div class=\"SandboxRoot env-bp-350\" data-twitter-event-id=\"0\">\n<div id=\"twitter-widget-0\" class=\"EmbeddedTweet EmbeddedTweet--cta js-clickToOpenTarget\" lang=\"en\" data-click-to-open-target=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GOPLeader\/status\/1194691072485732353\" data-iframe-title=\"Twitter Tweet\" data-scribe=\"page:tweet\" data-twitter-event-id=\"14\">\n<div class=\"EmbeddedTweet-tweetContainer\">\n<div class=\"EmbeddedTweet-tweet\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p>I did not witness any effort by any U.S. official to shield Burisma from scrutiny. In fact,\u00a0<strong>I and other U.S. officials consistently advocated reinstitution a scuttled investigation of Zlochevsky, Burisma\u2019s founder, as well as holding the corrupt prosecutors who hold the closed the case to account.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>In early 2015, I raised questions with the deputy prosecutor general about why the investigation of Mr. Zlochevsky had been terminated based on our belief that prosecutors had accepted bribes to close the case.
