Ed.\u2019s note: Alright, what is going on here? As the US military is being jettisoned from the Middle East, except for their oil interests in Syria<\/strong><\/a>, with many returning to the US presumably, we see a simultaneous buildup of a militarized police. With an increase of $600 million in used military equipment planned to be turned over to police departments, how many more people are going to be shot<\/a><\/strong> by an increasingly aggressive police<\/strong><\/a>?<\/p>\n

In addition to this, AG William Barr announced what has been described as an \u201cOrwellian pre-crime program.\u201d Bringing the \u201cwar on terrorism<\/em>\u201d back to America. Consider for a moment the level of violence in America. If you take the number of police shootings ending in death in 2018 at 1,165<\/strong><\/a> in addition to the 2,962 (590 dead<\/strong><\/a>) shot (non-police shootings) just in Chicago, that comes to 4,127 people shot (1,755 deaths) on American streets. What kind of a society tolerates that kind of carnage? Those are 2003 Baghdad \u201cwar\u201d statistics.<\/p>\n

President Donald Trump on Monday said the Justice Department is preparing to launch a sweeping crackdown on crime that he named \u201cthe surge,\u201d a term commonly associated with the George W. Bush administration\u2019s\u00a0decision to send tens of thousands of additional troops into Iraq<\/a>\u00a0in 2007.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn coming weeks, Attorney General Barr will announce a new crackdown on violent crime\u2014which I think is so important\u2014targeting gangs and drug traffickers in high crime cities and dangerous rural areas,\u201d Trump said during the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference in Chicago. \u201cLet\u2019s call it the surge.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president did not provide any details on the plan but said it is going to be \u201cvery dramatic.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you\u2019re going to see tremendous results very quickly,\u201d Trump added.<\/p>\n

As if to emphasize his view of\u00a0America\u2019s cities as war zones<\/a>, Trump went on to tout his administration\u2019s success in\u00a0putting military equipment\u00a0<\/a>into the hands of U.S. police officers and claimed \u201cAfghanistan is a safe place<\/a>\u201d compared to Chicago.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo help keep you safe, I\u2019ve made $600 million-worth of surplus military equipment available to local law enforcement,\u201d Trump told the audience of police chiefs. \u201cIf you remember, the previous administration didn\u2019t want to do that\u2026 They didn\u2019t want to make you look so tough. They didn\u2019t want to make you look like you\u2019re a threat.\u201d<\/p>\n
