Harley Rouda (D-CA), who sits on the House Oversight Committee, one of three House panels participating in the impeachment probe.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Dozens of Republicans, including some members of leadership,<u>\u00a0barged into the secure hearing room in the Capitol basement<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0where Laura Cooper, the deputy assistant secretary of defense for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia, was providing private testimony.<\/p>\n<p>Several lawmakers said that, in response to the Republican protest,\u00a0<strong>House Intelligence Committee Chairman\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/adam-schiff\" data-nid=\"188043\">Adam Schiff<\/a>\u00a0(D-Calif.) had left the room with Cooper, postponing the interview indefinitely.\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/467092-republicans-storm-into-house-hearing-to-break-up-trump-impeachment-testimony\"><em>The Hill<\/em><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), adding that the Democrats&#8217; impeachment probe has &#8220;far too much fact for their comfort level, so they have to try to stop it from moving forward.&#8221; (So much fact, in fact, that they have to conduct the probe in secret!)<\/p>\n<div class=\"SandboxRoot env-bp-350\" data-twitter-event-id=\"4\">\n<div id=\"twitter-widget-4\" class=\"EmbeddedTweet EmbeddedTweet--cta js-clickToOpenTarget\" lang=\"en\" data-click-to-open-target=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Olivia_Beavers\/status\/1187006636197584896\" data-iframe-title=\"Twitter Tweet\" data-scribe=\"page:tweet\" data-twitter-event-id=\"9\">\n<div class=\"EmbeddedTweet-tweetContainer\">\n<div class=\"EmbeddedTweet-tweet\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p>The move by House Republicans comes a day after another witness, top diplomat William Taylor, testified that Trump withheld military aid to Ukraine to pressure the country to conduct a pair of investigations \u2014 one into the 2016 election hacking, the other into the family of former Vice President\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/joe-biden\" data-nid=\"188332\">Joe Biden<\/a>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0that might have helped Trump&#8217;s reelection campaign next year.<\/p>\n<p>Some of Republicans who barged into the hearing room were in possession of cellphones, a violation of the rules governing the so-called sensitive compartmented information facility, known as the SCIF, where the depositions have been taking place.<\/p>\n<p>Wassermann Schultz said Cooper was not in the room at the time the Republicans entered. It&#8217;s unclear, she added, what will happen next in terms of Cooper&#8217;s testimony.\u00a0&#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/467092-republicans-storm-into-house-hearing-to-break-up-trump-impeachment-testimony\"><em>The Hill<\/em><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;We want this to continue,&#8221; said Rep. Chris Stewart (R-UT), who added that Republicans aren&#8217;t trying to stop the hearing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to hear from this witness but so do the other members of Congress,&#8221; Stewart continued. &#8220;This may be within House rules, that\u2019s not the question.
