Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the\u00a0Trump administration\u00a0for releasing $250 million in military aid\u00a0which was delayed last month\u00a0over concerns that the money was not being spent in the best interests of the United States<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“The president has made no secret when it comes to foreign assistance that\u00a0U.S. interests abroad should be prioritized and other foreign countries should also be paying their fair share<\/strong>,” a senior administration official told reporters in August.<\/p>\n

The move\u00a0came after US lawmakers on both sides of the aisle pressured the White House – capped off by the threat of an\u00a0amendement to the $695 billion Pentagon funding lodged by\u00a0Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), which would have prevented Trump from withholding such funds in the future, according to\u00a0Fox News<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n
