Two of the most senior intelligence officials in the US and UK\u00a0privately shared concerns about<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cour strange situation<\/strong>\u201d as the FBI launched its 2016 investigation into whether Donald Trump\u2019s campaign was colluding with\u00a0Russia<\/a>, the Guardian has learned.<\/p>\n

Text messages\u00a0between Andrew McCabe, the deputy director of the FBI at the time, and Jeremy Fleming<\/strong>, his then counterpart at MI5, now the head of\u00a0GCHQ<\/a>, also reveal their mutual surprise at the result of the EU referendum, which some US officials regarded as a \u201cwake-up call\u201d, according to a person familiar with the matter. –The Guardian<\/em><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

McCabe and Flemming’s texts were “infrequent and cryptic,” but “occurred with some regularity” after the June 2016 Brexit referendum.<\/p>\n
