Pelosi calls for Acosta to step down over Epstein case<\/h1>\n

Speaker\u00a0Nancy Pelosi<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(D-Calif.)\u00a0late Monday called\u00a0for Labor Secretary\u00a0Alexander Acosta<\/a><\/span>\u00a0to resign for his \u201cunconscionable agreement\u201d in securing a plea deal for Jeffrey Epstein that enabled\u00a0the financier to serve just over a year in prison following a sex crimes conviction.<\/p>\n

\u201c@SecretaryAcosta must step down,\u201d Pelosi tweeted. \u201cAs US Attorney, he engaged in an unconscionable agreement w\/ Jeffrey Epstein kept secret from courageous, young victims preventing them from seeking justice. This was known by @POTUS when he appointed him to the cabinet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Acosta, a U.S. attorney at the time of Epstein\u2019s 2008 conviction for soliciting prostitution from underaged girls, approved the deal with Epstein that enabled him to serve 13 months in \u201ccustody with work release.” The deal also let Epstein spend 16 hours a day outside of prison.<\/p>\n
