INDIANAPOLIS \u2013 An active-shooter training exercise at an Indiana elementary school in January left teachers with\u00a0welts and bruises after they were shot with plastic pellets<\/b>\u00a0by the local sheriff\u2019s office conducting the session.<\/p>\n
The incident, acknowledged in testimony this week before state lawmakers, was confirmed by two elementary-school teachers in Monticello, Indiana, who described an exercise in which teachers were\u00a0asked by local law enforcement to kneel against a classroom wall before being sprayed across their backs with plastic pellets without warning.<\/b><\/p>\n
\u201cThey told us,\u00a0\u2018This is what happens if you just cower and do nothing,\u2019\u201d<\/b>\u00a0said one of the two teachers, both of whom asked not to be identified out of concern for their jobs. \u201cThey shot all of us across our backs. I was hit four times.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt hurt so bad.\u201d<\/b>

\n<\/b>Now, these teachers and the state\u2019s largest teachers union want to stop this from happening in other Indiana schools.<\/p>\n
