In a disturbing video, the armored-up officers kick down\u00a0the family&#8217;s door during\u00a0the wellness check\u00a0\u2014 something a local lawmaker who fought for\u00a0their right to\u00a0do so is now denouncing as &#8220;an abuse of\u00a0power.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"b-inject m-inject-free m-inject-videoembed\">\n<div class=\"b-inject__media\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/36Scl7CfpVc\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;What about\u00a0parents&#8217; rights to\u00a0decide what&#8217;s best for\u00a0their child?&#8221; Arizona Rep. Kelly Townsend told the Arizona Republic. &#8220;Parents felt the child was fine. Next thing we know, the Gestapo is at\u00a0their door.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"b-inject m-inject-min\">\n<div class=\"b-inject__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" title=\"A health official prepares one of many vaccine injections.\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn2.img.sputniknews.com\/images\/105745\/78\/1057457828.jpg\" alt=\"A health official prepares one of many vaccine injections.\" width=\"705\" height=\"375\" \/><\/div>\n<h5 class=\"b-inject__copy\">\u00a9 AP PHOTO \/ ACHMAD IBRAHIM<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/sputniknews.com\/society\/201903241073492434-italian-anti-vaxxer-politican-gets-chicken-pox\/\">Italian Politician Who Opposes Mandatory Vaccination Gets Chicken Pox<\/a><\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<p>The irony is that it was Townsend who championed legislation requiring a search warrant for\u00a0the Arizona Department of\u00a0Child Safety (DCS) to\u00a0remove children from\u00a0their homes in\u00a0non-emergency situations, KNXV noted.<\/p>\n<p>The situation began on\u00a0February 25 when parents of\u00a0a two-year-old boy in\u00a0the town of\u00a0Chandler took the child to\u00a0the Southwest College of\u00a0Naturopathic Medicine clinic in\u00a0Tempe, where he registered a fever of\u00a0105 degrees Fahrenheit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"marker-quote1\">After the parents informed the doctor the child had no vaccinations, the doctor reportedly directed them to\u00a0take him to\u00a0the ER at\u00a0Banner Cardon Children&#8217;s Medical Center in\u00a0Mesa, fearing he might have meningitis, which can quickly turn deadly, the Arizona Republic said, citing documents from\u00a0a March 7 court hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Later that day, the child&#8217;s fever reportedly broke, and the parents decided not to\u00a0take him to\u00a0the ER. When nobody answered the door, they phoned the house. While the father answered, according to\u00a0court documents, he refused them entry because his son&#8217;s &#8220;&#8221;fever broke and he was fine.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A little after\u00a01 a.m., police received the official order and kicked the door down, entering the house with\u00a0weapons drawn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"marker-quote1\">&#8220;All because of\u00a0a fever. A fever! It&#8217;s absolutely ridiculous,&#8221; Nicholas Boca, the family&#8217;s attorney, told KNXV. &#8220;That type of\u00a0kicking your door in, with\u00a0guns drawn\u2026 it should be reserved for\u00a0violent criminals.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The boy was taken to\u00a0the hospital where he was diagnosed with\u00a0an upper respiratory infection, not meningitis, KNXV reported. And this is a waste of\u00a0state resources,&#8221; Boca said.<\/p>\n<p>A judge told the parents the following\u00a0the day the removal was warranted, as\u00a0the parents had refused to\u00a0follow a doctor&#8217;s orders and they had a legal history of\u00a0domestic violence. She recommended psychological evaluations of\u00a0both parents.
