In a stunning turn of events, all charges against\u00a0Empire<\/em>\u00a0actor\u00a0Jussie Smollett<\/a>\u00a0were\u00a0dropped<\/a>\u00a0by prosecutors in Chicago on Tuesday, weeks after he was indicted by a grand jury on 16 felony counts for allegedly staging a hate crime. But the Chicago Police Department and Mayor Rahm Emanuel are speaking out about the Cook County State\u2019s Attorney\u2019s Office\u2019s decision, with the mayor calling the move \u201ca whitewash of justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Emanuel talked about the financial and ethical costs of Smollett\u2019s case during a Tuesday afternoon press conference, saying that the actor tarnished the credible of future victims of hate crimes in an effort to advance his career.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe did this all in the name of self-promotion,\u201d Emanuel said. \u201cThis is a whitewash of justice. A grand jury could not have been clearer.\u201d<\/p>\n
