A top FBI official admitted to\u00a0Congressional investigators last year that the agency had contacts within the Trump campaign as part of operation “Crossfire Hurricane,” which sounds a lot like FBI “informant” Stefan Halper – a former\u00a0Oxford University professor who was\u00a0paid over $1 million<\/a>\u00a0by the Obama Department of Defense between 2012 and 2018, with nearly half of it surrounding the 2016 US election.<\/p>\n

According to portions of transcripts published on Tuesday by the\u00a0Epoch Times<\/em><\/a>\u00a0of a Aug. 31, 2018 deposition by Trisha Anderson, the FBI relied on sources who “already had campaign contacts” in order to surveil the Trump team.<\/p>\n

“To my knowledge, the FBI did not place anybody within a campaign but, rather, relied upon its network of sources, some of whom\u00a0already had campaign contacts, including the source that has been discussed in the media at some length beyond Christopher Steele<\/strong>,” said Anderson – who was the #2 attorney at the FBI’s Office of General Counsel, and had extensive involvement with the Trump counterintelligence investigation.<\/p>\n

Halper is reportedly a longtime CIA and FBI informant, and has been\u00a0involved in US politics at the highest levels for decades, becoming George H.W. Bush’s National Director for Policy Development during his presidential campaign. After Bush lost to Reagan, Halper worked as Reagan’s\u00a0Deputy Assistant Secretary of State – where he served under\u00a0three different Secretaries<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He then became a\u00a0senior advisor to the\u00a0Department of Defense<\/a><\/b>\u00a0and DOJ\u00a0<\/strong>between 1984 and 2001. Halper’s former father-in-law was Ray Cline, former\u00a0Deputy Director of the CIA<\/a>. He also allegedly\u00a0spied on the Carter administration\u00a0<\/strong>– collecting information on foreign policy (an account disputed by Ray Cline).<\/p>\n

Halper’s involvement in surveilling the Trump campaign was exposed by the\u00a0Daily Caller<\/em>‘s Chuck Ross, who reported that the 74-year-old spook was\u00a0enlisted by the FBI to\u00a0befriend and spy on three members of the Trump campaign during the 2016 US election<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Halper received a DoD contract from the Obama administration for\u00a0$411,575<\/a>\u00a0–\u00a0<\/strong>made in two payments, and had a start date of\u00a0September 26, 2016 – three days<\/strong>\u00a0after a<\/strong>\u00a0September 23<\/strong>\u00a0Yahoo! News\u00a0<\/em>article<\/a>\u00a0by Michael Isikoff about\u00a0Trump aide Carter Page, which used information fed to Isikoff by\u00a0“pissgate” dossier creator Christopher Steele<\/strong>.\u00a0The FBI would use the\u00a0Yahoo!<\/em>\u00a0article along with the unverified “pissgate” dossier\u00a0as\u00a0supporting evidence<\/a>\u00a0in an FISA warrant application for Page.<\/p>\n

Halper approached Page during an election-themed conference at Cambridge on July 11, 2016,\u00a0six weeks after the September 26\u00a0DoD award start date.\u00a0<\/b>The two would stay in contact for the next 14 months,\u00a0frequently meeting and exchanging emails<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He said that he first encountered the informant during a conference in mid-July of 2016 and that they stayed in touch. The two later met several times in the Washington area. Mr. Page said their interactions were benign. –New York Times<\/em><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And as the\u00a0Daily Caller<\/em>\u00a0reports, Halper used a decades-old association with Paul Manafort to break the ice\u00a0with Page.<\/p>\n

In September 2016, the FBI would send\u00a0Halper to further probe Trump aide George Papadopoulos on an allegation he made that Russia had “dirt” on Hillary Clinton. According to Papadopoulos in an interview with Dan Bongino,\u00a0Halper\u00a0angrily accused him<\/strong>\u00a0of working with Russia before storming out of a meeting.<\/p>\n

Halper essentially began interrogating Papadopoulos, saying that it\u2019s \u201cobviously in your interest to be working with the Russians\u201d and to \u201chack emails.\u201d \u201cYou\u2019re complicit with Russia in this, isn\u2019t that right George<\/strong>\u201d Halper told him. Halper also inquired about Hillary\u2019s hacked emails, insinuating that Papadopoulos possessed them. Papadopoulos denied knowing anything about this and asked to be left alone. –Bongino.com<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
