RFERL: RUSSIAN TROLLS ARE SPREADING ANTI-VAX PROPAGANDA &amp; KILLING YOUR CHILDREN.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/h0FrxjpyR8\">https:\/\/t.co\/h0FrxjpyR8<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/MCTmTf7sZK\">pic.twitter.com\/MCTmTf7sZK<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Anatoly Karlin \ud83e\uddec\u23e9 (@powerfultakes) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/powerfultakes\/status\/1096120451863064577?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 14, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We actually don&#8217;t know enough about the influence of misinformation available online upon vaccination intentions and behaviors,&#8221; said WHO vaccine specialist Katrine Habersaat. &#8220;What we do know is that\u00a0<strong>there is an element of echo chambers in this<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad__wrapper-element\"><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;We may never know for sure, but I hope there will be more studies exploring this so we know how much we should fear or work against negative misinformation online,&#8221; Habersaat added.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps Russian propaganda is also responsible for the latest measles outbreak in Madagascar, which has infected over 66,000 people in the African island nation,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/world\/africa\/more-than-900-dead-in-madagascar-measles-epidemic-20190216-p50y96.html\"><strong>killing at least 922<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, according to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchamerica.org\/blog\/experts-discuss-preparedness-infectious-disease-outbreaks-and-public-perception-vaccines\">2018 survey<\/a>,\u00a0<strong>just 71% of Americans polled says it is &#8220;very important&#8221; to have their children vaccinated<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; down from 82% in 2008.<\/p>\n<p><strong>University researchers are on the case<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Duke University is hard at work linking alleged Russian disinformation to the &#8220;incredibly complex&#8221; issue of people opting out of available vaccinations for themselves or their children, according to\u00a0<em>RFERL<\/em>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>At Duke University in North Carolina, a center for scientific health data called The Forge is working to understand and respond to medical misinformation on the Internet.<\/p>\n<p>Forge director Robert Califf, a former commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, has said that\u00a0<strong>medical misinformation may be &#8220;the issue of our times that demands top priority.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He said combating misinformation campaigns about vaccines had become more complex now that research is demonstrating that a large amount of the social-media posts represent what he called &#8220;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/first-person\/2019\/2\/7\/18212132\/measles-outbreak-2019-clark-county-wa-anti-vaxxers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">state-sponsored cyberwarfare<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>particularly from Russia<\/strong>.&#8221;\u00a0&#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rferl.org\/a\/are-russian-trolls-saving-measles-from-extinction\/29768471.html\">RFERL.org<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>George Washington University professor David Broniatowski says that Russian trolls at the Internet Research Agency have amplified the vaccine debate in the United States and &#8220;eroded public consensus on vaccination&#8221; since 2014.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Broniatowski tells RFE\/RL he hasn&#8217;t seen any evidence that Russia has tried to weaken Western democracies by persuading people to stop vaccinating. Rather, known trolls masqueraded as legitimate users on social media and debated vaccines as part of their strategy to promote political polarization.\u00a0&#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rferl.org\/a\/are-russian-trolls-saving-measles-from-extinction\/29768471.html\">RFERL.org<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a known strategy to infiltrate an interest group around a particular issue or topic and then slowly try to introduce new things into that discourse,&#8221; says Broniatowski.<\/p>\n<p>The trolls are reportedly adept at &#8220;getting access to a vulnerable subgroup and getting followers from that subgroup&#8221; via social media platforms, after which they get their followers &#8220;to retweet messages about other issues that are in line with the Kremlin&#8217;s agenda,&#8221; according to\u00a0<em>RFERL<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Information warfare, or just information?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As we\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2018-08-29\/anti-vax-nurse-fired-after-posting-horrors-childs-measles-facebook\">noted last year<\/a>, concerned parents making the choice to vaccinate their children must weigh the benefits of protection from both deadly and typically\u00a0non-fatal diseases,\u00a0against research pointing to\u00a0adverse reactions in some patients &#8211;\u00a0typically\u00a0from metallic adjuvants which\u00a0enhance\u00a0the body&#8217;s immune response to the vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps instead of Russian trolls, the primary driver behind the choice not to vaccinate has more to do with the\u00a0<strong>general availability of information over the internet<\/strong>, such as peer-reviewed studies and federal vaccine courts which have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salon.com\/2018\/12\/23\/federal-vaccine-court-quietyly-pays-out-billins_partner\/\">paid out more than $4 billion<\/a>\u00a0via the national\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrsa.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/hrsa\/vaccine-compensation\/data\/monthly-stats-february-2019.pdf\">Vaccine Injury Compensation Program<\/a>\u00a0(VICP).<\/p>\n<p>In July of 2018, for example, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mctlawyers.com\/101-million-dollar-vaccine-injury-mmr\/\">$101 million settlement<\/a>\u00a0was reached for an infant who suffered a severe reaction to the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine.\u00a0That said &#8211; the more than half of the awards granted through the VICP have been linked to the Influenza vaccine, while\u00a0<strong>the MMR vaccine accounts\u00a0for less than 5% of cases<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC2819810\/pdf\/nihms171746.pdf\">2009 study<\/a>\u00a0from the University of British Columbia which injected mice with a human-equivalent dose of aluminum oxide found in some vaccines, observed that: &#8220;The multiple aluminum hydroxide injections of experiment 2 showed\u00a0<strong>profound effects on motor and other behaviours<\/strong>\u00a0as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. Multiple aluminum injections produced significant behavioural outcomes including\u00a0<strong>changes in locomotive behaviour<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>induced memory deficits<\/strong>\u00a0on water maze tasks (Fig. 5).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/avg%20time_0.png?itok=ImFkp9ug\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/avg%20time_0.png?itok=ImFkp9ug\" data-link-option=\"0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zh-prod-1cc738ca-7d3b-4a72-b792-20bd8d8fa069.storage.googleapis.com\/s3fs-public\/inline-images\/avg%20time_0.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zh-prod-1cc738ca-7d3b-4a72-b792-20bd8d8fa069.storage.googleapis.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_desktop\/public\/inline-images\/avg%20time_0.png?itok=ImFkp9ug 1x\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"346\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"46d02358-7ec4-4ef4-9ac8-9b0096d9f23f\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>(Of note &#8211; the MMR vaccine for measles, mumps and rubella\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/pubs\/pinkbook\/downloads\/appendices\/B\/excipient-table-2.pdf\">does\u00a0<em>not<\/em>\u00a0contain<\/a>\u00a0aluminum hydroxide.)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>And a<a href=\"https:\/\/vaccinesafetycommission.org\/pdfs\/13-2013-Autoimmunity-Perricone.pdf\">\u00a02013 study<\/a>\u00a0conducted by Israeli and Italian researchers focusing on Gulf War Syndrome and other Autoimmune\/inflammatory Syndrome Induced by Adjuvants (ASIA) conditions, found that adjuvants were &#8220;<strong>found to induce autoimmunity by themselves both in animal models and in humans<\/strong>,&#8221; particularly for people predisposed to autoimmune issues.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For instance,\u00a0<strong>silicone was associated with siliconosis, aluminum hydroxide with postvaccination\u00a0phenomena and macrophagic myofasciitis syndrome<\/strong>,&#8221; reads the abstract.<\/p>\n<p>Most medical professionals and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.immunizeusa.org\/blog\/2015\/february\/19\/4-striking-statistics-about-vaccination\/\">pro-vaccine groups<\/a>, however, point to the wide array of\u00a0&#8220;vaccine-preventable diseases&#8221;
