<\/a>Fired FBI operative on the CBS 60 Minutes set<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n

Andrew McCabe, the former acting director of the FBI, said he ordered obstruction of justice and counterintelligence investigations involving Donald Trump and his ties to Russia, shortly after the president fired James Comey as director of the agency in 2017,\u00a0CBS News<\/a>\u00a0is reporting.<\/p>\n McCabe\u2019s comments came during an interview for \u201c60 Minutes.\u201d The show will air the segment\u00a0on Sunday.<\/p>\n “I was very concerned that I was able to put the Russia case on absolutely solid ground, in an indelible fashion,” McCabe said. “That were I removed quickly, or reassigned or fired, that the case could not be closed or vanish in the night without a trace. I wanted to make sure our case was on solid ground and if somebody came in behind me and closed it and tried to walk away from it, they would not be able to do it without creating a record of why they made that decision.\u201d<\/p>\n The “60 Minutes” interview was conducted by correspondent Scott Pelley, who told “CBS This Morning”<\/a>\u00a0that McCabe confirmed Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein really did consider wearing a wire in meetings with Trump. The Justice Department had previously said the offer by Rosenstein was made sarcastically.<\/p>\n “There were meetings at the Justice Department at which it was discussed whether the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet could be brought together to remove the president of the United States under the 25th Amendment,” Pelley said. “These were the eight days from Comey’s firing to the point that Robert Mueller was appointed special counsel. And the highest levels of American law enforcement were trying to figure out what do with the president.”<\/p>\n McCabe was later\u00a0fired<\/a>\u00a0by Jeff Sessions, the attorney general at the time, who cited an investigation claiming McCabe had not been truthful about releasing information to the media.<\/p>\n
