New York Governor Andrew Cuomo\u2019s favorability rating fell to an all-time low following his passage of sweeping legislation expanding abortion access, a poll revealed Monday.<\/h3>\n
The Democratic governor\u2019s approval rating fell by a remarkable 8 percentage points in just one month, from 51 percent to 43 percent,\u00a0according<\/a>\u00a0to the Siena College poll.<\/p>\n Those who view Mr. Cuomo unfavorably also experienced a substantial\u00a0leap<\/a>, from 43 percent last month to 50 percent now. The Albany-area polling institute said that the governor\u2019s popularity is at its lowest point ever since Cuomo took office in 2011.<\/p>\n When asked specifically about Mr. Cuomo\u2019s job-performance, only 35 percent said he was doing an \u201cexcellent\u201d or a \u201cgood\u201d job, down from 43 percent last month, while a significant majority (64 percent) said the governor was doing a \u201cfair\u201d or \u201cpoor\u201d job in office, a 9-point jump from the 56 percent who said the same last month.<\/p>\n \u201cNow, for the first time ever, half of New Yorkers view Andrew Cuomo unfavorably. It\u2019s his lowest favorability rating ever and his lowest-ever job performance as governor,\u201d said Siena College poll spokesman Steven Greenberg.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd it is a dramatic drop in both ratings from last month.\u201d<\/p>\n Mr. Cuomo has been broadly criticized after promoting and passing some of the most liberal abortion legislation in the state, guaranteeing women the right to abort their unborn children any time up until birth for vaguely defined reasons of \u201chealth,\u201d including social well-being.<\/p>\n After Cuomo signed the Reproductive Health Act into law, he ordered authorities to\u00a0light<\/a>up the World Trade Center complex in pink to celebrate abortion as a \u201cfundamental right.\u201d<\/p>\n Monday\u2019s poll results suggest that Mr. Cuomo is seriously out of touch with Americans on the question of abortion, a fact borne out by a recent Marist poll. The sweeping\u00a0survey<\/a> revealed that the vast majority of Americans \u2013 in both parties \u2013 support legal restrictions on abortion.<\/p>\n Three quarters of Americans say abortion should be limited to \u2014 at most \u2014 the first three months of pregnancy, not the nine months pushed by Mr. Cuomo. Moreover, two-thirds of Americans want Roe revisited to allow for state regulation of abortion or to ban it altogether.<\/p>\n
