Cambridge Economist Protests Brexit By Allowing Students To Sign Her Naked Body During Lecture<\/h2>\n
ZeroHedge.com “The first living human petition…”<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n \u201cBrexit leaves Britain naked.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0That was the message scrawled on economics scholar Victoria Bateman\u2019s completely nude body during a recent lecture she gave at which audience members were also allowed to \u201ccreate a living anti-Brexit petition by signing her bare body,\u201d\u00a0Inside Higher Ed<\/em>\u00a0reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Jan. 14\u00a0event<\/a>\u00a0was titled:\u00a0\u201cBrexit: The Naked Truth.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>A description of the event said it would delve into the \u201ceconomic, political and social damage that Brexit will cause, drawing on her expertise in economic history as well as detailing the practical and emotional impact on her own academic community.\u201d<\/p>\n Signing her body attempted to create \u201cthe first living human petition,\u201d the description noted, adding \u201cexpect impassioned argument and nudity in equal measure.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n This is not the first time the University of Cambridge lecturer has taken on controversial issues by baring her breasts and vagina.<\/strong>\u00a0In 2016, she protested Brexit in the same exact way:\u00a0naked<\/a>. And last summer, she went\u00a0semi-naked<\/a>\u00a0to an end-of-term university dinner with the pro-abortion slogan \u201cmy body my choice\u201d written on her upper chest and stomach.<\/p>\n \u201cWomen\u2019s bodies are one of the big battlegrounds we face today, whether in terms of women\u2019s access to birth control, sex workers\u2019 rights or clothing, including burka bans,\u201d Bateman\u00a0told<\/a>\u00a0Inside Higher Ed<\/em>. \u201cBy covering up the body, these problems don\u2019t go away. Instead, we fail to address them because we think of the body as something that\u2019s embarrassing and not to be talked about in polite \u2014 or academic \u2014 company.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2026 As she saw it, however,\u00a0\u201cthe relevant question is not \u2018Why use your naked body?\u2019 but \u2018Why not use your naked body?\u2019<\/strong>Reversing the question in this way helps to reveal people\u2019s inner thoughts or presumptions about women\u2019s bodies: that when a woman shows her body it devalues her worth or decreases the respect people have for her.\u201d<\/p>\n She also believes \u201cin the power of art to go beyond what academic writing alone can offer \u2026\u00a0I\u2019ve condensed all my words into one simple message: that Britain has been sold the emperor\u2019s new clothes.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
