Patty Murray \u2013 blocked a bill that would require babies born alive during abortion to receive reasonable medical care and transport to a hospital.<\/h2>\n<p>Nebraska Republican Sen. Ben Sasse introduced the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/116th-congress\/senate-bill\/130\/text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">S. 130<\/a>) to protect babies who have survived failed abortions. Sasse went to the floor of the Senate Monday to ask his colleagues to pass the bill by unanimous consent, but Democrats objected.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Senator <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BenSasse?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@BenSasse<\/a> did not mince words in response to comments from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovernorVA?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@GovernorVA<\/a> today on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/HB2491?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#HB2491<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wRLyemuMxg\">pic.twitter.com\/wRLyemuMxg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; The Daily Signal (@DailySignal) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DailySignal\/status\/1090751517500542976?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 30, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Referencing the recent firestorm created by the Virginia bill known as the Repeal Act,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2019\/02\/02\/va-democrat-kathy-tran-postpones-town-hall-amid-backlash-over-childbirth-abortion-bill\/\">introduced\u00a0<\/a>by Democrat Delegate Kathy Tran and supported by Democrat Gov. Ralph Northam, Sasse\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sasse.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/press-releases?ID=9EDF5DC4-B63A-4DA1-B487-57F91D88333D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">said<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This place fancies itself the world\u2019s greatest deliberative body, but we would be deceiving ourselves if we ignored the biggest debate that\u2019s been happening in America over the last 36 hours. A public elected official \u2014 the Governor of one of the 50 states \u2014 has been defending a practice that is morally repugnant. The Governor of Virginia has been defending a practice that is repugnant to civilized people across the entire world.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cSenate Democrats had the chance today to prove they are not the party of infanticide, and instead they doubled down on extremism,\u201d said\u00a0Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) President Marjorie Dannenfelser after Democrats blocked the bill. \u201cThe Democratic Party\u2019s agenda of abortion on demand through birth\u00a0and even beyond\u00a0is radically out of step with the standards of decency the overwhelming majority of Americans expect from their leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe urge the Senate to bring the bill to the floor for a recorded vote so Americans can know where each senator stands, and we urge its passage,\u201d Dannenfelser added. \u201cIt\u2019s time to get this bill swiftly to the President\u2019s desk for his signature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Born-Alive Act\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/116th-congress\/senate-bill\/130\/text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">states\u00a0<\/a>that Congress acknowledges an \u201cinfant\u201d born alive during a failed abortion \u201cis a legal person for all purposes under the laws of the United States, and entitled to all the protections of such laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny infant born alive after an abortion or within a hospital, clinic, or other facility has the same claim to the protection of the law that would arise for any newborn, or for any person who comes to a hospital, clinic, or other facility for screening and treatment or otherwise becomes a patient within its care,\u201d the legislation continues.<\/p>\n<p>Under the bill, health care providers who fail to provide medical care to an infant born alive after abortion can be fined or imprisoned for up to five years, or both.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Born-Alive Act, the intentional killing of an infant born alive after abortion \u201cshall be punished as \u2026 intentionally killing or attempting to kill a human being.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jill Stanek, a former nurse who witnessed late-term babies born alive during abortion procedures and left to die, said, \u201cIt is appalling to watch Democrat senators argue against this compassionate bill.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPleading ignorance is not an option especially in the wake of efforts in New York and Virginia to legalize infanticide,\u201d she said. \u201cEveryone should be able to agree on equal protection under the law for these children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just prior to the controversy over the Virginia bill \u2013 which would allow abortion even moments before birth \u2013 New York Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2019\/01\/23\/right-to-life-ny-abortion-law-removes-criminal-penalties-for-violence-against-unborn-child-during-homicide\/\">signed\u00a0<\/a>a bill into law that denies \u201cpersonhood\u201d to unborn babies. Under the law, violence against an unborn child during a homicide is no longer criminally punishable.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Democrats in Rhode Island and Vermont have also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2019\/02\/04\/rhode-island-and-vermont-democrats-propose-radical-abortion-bills\/\">proposed\u00a0<\/a>bills that would strip most restrictions on abortion and declare the procedure a \u201cfundamental right.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&quot;These late-term abortion bills do more than reveal Democratic radicalism.
