Palm Beach County elections supervisor Susan Bucher, suspended by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, has resigned.<\/p>\n

Bucher, a Democrat, maintained she would not have received a fair hearing had she decided to fight her removal before the GOP-controlled Florida Senate,\u00a0The Palm Beach Post<\/a>\u00a0is reporting.<\/p>\n

\u201cPrior to my service as your supervisor, I was a very vocal member of the House minority party in Tallahassee,\u201d she said. \u201cAs such, I do not believe I can receive a fair hearing before a very partisan Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n

DeSantis had\u00a0suspended Bucher<\/a>\u00a0on Jan. 18 after she failed to meet deadlines during recounts after November\u2019s elections.<\/p>\n

She had been elections chief since 2008.<\/p>\n

Florida Senate President Bill Galvano, R-Sarasota, took exception to Bucher\u2019s comments.<\/p>\n

\u201cI respect Supervisor Bucher, who I served with in the Florida House, as I do all elected officials in our state,\u201d Galvano said. \u201cThe Senate\u2019s constitutional responsibility to judge the merits of an executive suspension is an important feature of the checks and balances that allow for the separation of powers under our Constitution.<\/p>\n

“I have and will continue to make every effort to ensure fair, unbiased due process for all involved with this important constitutional responsibility of the Florida Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n
