President Trump on Saturday lashed out after a Friday evening report in\u00a0the\u00a0New York Times<\/em><\/a>\u00a0that US law enforcement officials “became so concerned by the president’s behavior<\/strong>” in the days after Trump fired James Comey as FBI director, that “they began investigating whether he had been working on behalf of Russia against American interests.<\/strong>”<\/p>\n According to the NYT, agents and senior F.B.I. officials “had grown suspicious of Mr. Trump\u2019s ties to Russia during the 2016 campaign<\/strong>” but held off on opening an investigation into him, the people said, in part because they were uncertain how to proceed with an inquiry of such sensitivity and magnitude.<\/p>\n What happened next? Well, a collusion narrative was born and carefully crafted as the paper explains:<\/p>\n The president\u2019s activities before and after Mr. Comey\u2019s firing in May 2017, particularly\u00a0two<\/a>\u00a0instances<\/a>\u00a0in which Mr. Trump tied the Comey dismissal to the Russia investigation, helped prompt the counterintelligence aspect of the inquiry, the people said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The odd inquiry carried “explosive implications” as counterintelligence investigators had to consider whether the president\u2019s own actions constituted a possible threat to national security. Agents also sought to determine whether Mr. Trump was knowingly working for Russia or had unwittingly fallen under Moscow\u2019s influence.<\/p>\n The criminal and counterintelligence elements were coupled together into one investigation, former law enforcement officials said in interviews in recent weeks, because if Mr. Trump had ousted the head of the F.B.I. to impede or even end the Russia investigation, that was both a possible crime and a national security concern. The F.B.I.\u2019s counterintelligence division handles national security matters.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Even so, “…some former law enforcement officials outside the investigation\u00a0have questioned whether agents overstepped in opening it<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n Then, in paragraph nine we read “No evidence has emerged publicly that Mr. Trump was secretly in contact with or took direction from Russian government officials.<\/strong>”<\/p>\n Responding to the\u00a0“bombshell” NYT report – which curiously resurrects the “Russian collusion” narrative right as Trump is set to\u00a0test\u00a0his Presidential authority over the border wall,\u00a0the president lashed out over Twitter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Wow, just learned in the Failing New York Times that the corrupt former leaders of the FBI, almost all fired or forced to leave the agency for some very bad reasons, opened up an investigation on me, for no reason & with no proof, after I fired Lyin\u2019 James Comey, a total sleaze!”<\/p>\n Funny thing about James Comey. Everybody wanted him fired, Republican and Democrat alike. After the rigged & botched Crooked Hillary investigation, where she was interviewed on July 4th Weekend, not recorded or sworn in, and where she said she didn\u2019t know anything (a lie),\u00a0the FBI was in complete turmoil (see N.Y. Post) because of Comey\u2019s poor leadership and the way he handled the Clinton mess (not to mention his usurpation of powers from the Justice Department).
