Trump: ‘Fake News’ \u2014 NY Times Wrong on Jim Webb for Defense Secretary<\/h1>\n

President Donald Trump said late Friday afternoon that a New York Times report that he is considering Democrat Jim Webb as his next secretary of defense is “Fake News.”<\/p>\n

While he offered no clue about his plans to replace Jim Mattis, he\u00a0wrote on Twitter<\/a>\u00a0that he doesn’t know Webb and said the acting secretary, Patrick Shanahan, is “doing a great job!”<\/p>\n

His Tweet in full said:<\/p>\n

“The story in the New York Times regarding Jim Webb being considered as the next Secretary of Defense is FAKE NEWS. I\u2019m sure he is a fine man, but I don\u2019t know Jim, and never met him. Patrick Shanahan, who is Acting Secretary of Defense, is doing a great job!”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n
