Though Trump had openly spoken about wanting to leave Syria\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/422728-trump-syria-leave-troops\/\">back in March<\/a>, senior officials in his administration have said that US forces would stay there indefinitely.<\/p>\n<p>CNN\u2019s Jake Tapper reacted to the announcement by quoting an anonymous Pentagon official who saw it as a victory for Russian President Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Responding to this, a Pentagon official asks me: \u201cso when does Russia announce their victory?\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1kWL3XH9oT\">https:\/\/t.co\/1kWL3XH9oT<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; font-family: Aleo, Skolar, ff-tisa-web-pro, Georgia, serif; font-style: italic;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Rubio echoed Lehrich\u2019s assessment that the US withdrawal would turn Syria over to Russia and Iran, adding that it might lead to another conflict between Israel and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah, and lend strength to the (hypothetical) argument by Russia and China that Washington is an\u00a0<em>\u201cunreliable ally.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Another foreign policy hawk, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) said the pullout would be\u00a0<em>\u201ca huge Obama-like mistake,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0enabling the revival of IS and putting the Kurds at risk.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">With all due respect, ISIS is not defeated in Syria, Iraq, and after just returning from visiting there &#8212;
