Marco Rubio of Florida.<\/p>\n<div class=\"left_prom_160 desktop-only\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-BTF_SKY_3\" class=\"desktop-only\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In a series of tweets Thursday, Rubio charged that in Broward and Palm Beach Counties, election officials are continuing to count ballots, reporting tens of thousands of additional vote for Democratic candidates, including incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson and gubernatorial candidate Rep. Andrew Gillum.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Screen-Shot-2018-11-08-at-9.12.02-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-107764 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Screen-Shot-2018-11-08-at-9.12.02-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"313\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Screen-Shot-2018-11-08-at-9.12.02-PM.png 313w, https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Screen-Shot-2018-11-08-at-9.12.02-PM-300x192.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 313px) 100vw, 313px\" \/><\/a>Rubio noted that Florida law requires counties to report early voting and vote-by-mail within 30 minutes of the polls closing.<\/p>\n<p>But 43 hours after polls closed Broward and Palm Beach are still counting, he tweeted, and \u201crefusing to disclose how many ballots they have left to count.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rubio said the latest ballot dump from Broward County flipped the agriculture commissioner race to the Democrat and cut former Florida Gov. Rick Scott\u2019s lead in the Senate race from 54,000 to 17,000 votes \u201cand we still don\u2019t know how many ballots they have left to count!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Florida\u2019s secretary of state, Ken Detzner, told county election supervisors Thursday to plan for as many as three statewide recounts, the Miami Herald reported.<\/p>\n<p>He also advised the supervisors to brace for extraordinary national media scrutiny.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe recounts will be nationally watched \u2026 [we\u2019re] under a microscope,\u201d Detzner said on a conference call with counties, according to the Herald.<\/p>\n<p>The paper said statewide races for U.S. Senate and agriculture commissioner are within the machine recount window of half of 1 percent.<\/p>\n<p>In the governor\u2019s race on Thursday morning, Republican Ron DeSantis held a 0.52 percent lead over Gillum, slightly outside the threshold of 0.5. But by Thursday afternoon, the Tallahassee Democrat reported, DeSantis was up by only 0.47 percent.Florida\u2019s secretary of state has yet to announce a recount.<\/p>\n<p>Gillum, who conceded Tuesday night, said Thursday in a statement \u201cit has become clear there are many more outstanding ballots left to count.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He insisted \u201cevery voice must be heard in this race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>\u2018Chipping away at GOP leads<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Rubio argued that Bay County, Florida, was hit by a Category 4 hurricane just four weeks ago yet managed to submit timely results.<\/p>\n<p>The senator pointed out the Broward County elections supervisor, Brenda Snipes, says she doesn\u2019t know how many ballots are left to be counted.<\/p>\n<p>Her office, rather than giving hourly updates, is \u201creleasing thousands of additional votes, often in the overnight hours, that are chipping away at GOP leads,\u201d Rubio said.<\/p>\n<p>He said Broward County election officials \u201chave a history of violating the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA US Senate seat and statewide cabinet officer are now potentially in the hands of an elections supervisor with a history of incompetence and blatant violations of state and federal laws,\u201d Rubio tweeted.<\/p>\n<p><b>Elections supervisor confronted<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/elections\/broward-county-elections-supervisor-explains-why-its-taking-so-long-to-count-ballots\">WPLG-TV in Miami reported<\/a>\u00a0Snipes had a \u201ctesty exchange\u201d with one of the station\u2019s reporters Thursday as the elections supervisor was asked about the status of the recount.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCould I please get a moment to go into the room and find out?\u201d Snipes asked the group huddled around her. \u201cOK, when I come back I\u2019ll let you know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, Dr. Snipes, it is now Thursday,\u201d said WPLG investigative reporter Jeff Weinsier. \u201cWe are still counting ballots in Broward County.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re counting five pages or six pages for each of the people who voted,\u201d Snipes said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut other counties have been able to do it,\u201d Weinsier said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut other counties didn\u2019t have 600,000 votes out there,\u201d Snipes retorted<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, Miami-Dade did,\u201d Weinsier said.<\/p>\n<p>WPLG noted that in the November 2016 general election, a small number of ballots were mailed to voters without the state\u2019s medical marijuana referendum.
