Mark Meadows, R-N.C., on Thursday called for Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to resign \u201cimmediately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The demand reflects an escalating dissatisfaction with the Department of Justice\u2019s No. 2 official \u2014 both for his lack of \u201ccandor\u201d and failure, so far, to appear before lawmakers,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/http\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/412077-meadows-calls-on-rosenstein-to-resign-immediately\"><strong>The Hill\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>reported.<\/p>\n<p>In September, Meadows pressed for Rosenstein to either testify before the<a href=\"http:\/\/http\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/408435-freedom-caucus-calls-on-rosenstein-to-testify-or-resign\"><strong>\u00a0House Judiciary Committee<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0or step down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think at this particular point, Rod Rosenstien\u2019s priorities are misplaced,\u201d Meadows told reporters, The Hill reported. \u201cHis unwillingness to come before Congress and allow us to conduct proper congressional oversight, along with the other information that we\u2019ve learned over the last week or so, would indicate that Rod Rosenstein has not displayed the candor of which would support one\u2019s theory of actually believing that he has been open and honest in all regards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So with that, I think that it\u2019s time that Rod Rosenstein steps down,\u201d he added. \u201cHe should do so immediately and in doing that, I think it would serve the country well, it would serve this president well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rosenstein oversees special counsel Robert Mueller\u2019s Russia probe, which the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/politics\/gop-question-mueller-distract\/2017\/12\/06\/id\/830358\/\"><strong>Freedom Caucus<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and other conservatives have blasted as biased against President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Conservative lawmakers also have been\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/newsfront\/rosenstein-trump-recording-25th\/2018\/09\/21\/id\/882876\/\"><strong>trying to grill Rosenstein<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0about his reported consideration of wearing a wire to record Trump, and of invoking the 25th Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>Another Freedom Caucus member,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/newsfront\/rod-rosenstein-special-counsel-robert-mueller-appropriate\/2018\/10\/17\/id\/886815\/\"><strong>Rep.
