First Lady Melania Trump returned to Washington, DC, after the cabin of her plane filled with smoke.<\/p>\n
Reporters traveling with the first lady\u00a0reported<\/a>\u00a0that 15 minutes after the plane took off smoke was spotted in the cabin and filled with a burning smell.<\/p>\n Aides brought the reporters wet towels, instructing them to cover their faces if the smell was too strong. One staffer told reporters that the cause of the smoke was a malfunctioning\u00a0communications unit.<\/p>\n The First Lady\u2019s communications director Stephanie Grisham\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0in a statement that the cause of the smoke was a \u201cminor mechanical issue.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEverything is fine and everyone is safe,\u201d she said shortly.\u00a0The airplane was a Boeing C-32A.<\/p>\n The First Lady was traveling to Philadelphia to visit families of children affected by exposure to opioids in the womb and a neonatal intensive care nursery.<\/p>\n The First Lady is still expected to make the trip after a new plane is found, according to reports.<\/p>\n President Donald Trump commented on the incident in an\u00a0interview\u00a0<\/a>with Fox Business host Stuart Varney.<\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019re fine, I just spoke to her. They came back, she got on another plane, I said, \u2018I hope this plane is better than the first one,\u2019 but they had a problem, but she\u2019s fine.\u201d<\/p>\n Mrs Trump led off plane at Andrews after aircraft problem forced flight to Philadelphia to be aborted.
