Radio host Mark Levin warned fellow conservatives on Friday evening that they should not rush to conclusions about the\u00a0New York Times<\/em>\u2018 latest story alleging that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had plotted against President Donald Trump.<\/h3>\n

He warned\u00a0that Trump\u2019s enemies might be trying to goad him into firing Rosenstein before the midterm elections by leaking information from memoranda created by former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, who was fired in March for lying.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Times<\/em>\u00a0reported<\/a>\u00a0Friday that in 2017, Rosenstein had suggested recording Trump secretly, and had \u201cdiscussed recruiting cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Mr. Trump from office for being unfit.\u201d Rosenstein denied the latter claim, and Department of Justice sources suggested that Rosenstein had been speaking sacrastically about wearing a wire in meetings with Trump \u2014 in response, Levin said, citing sources, to McCabe\u2019s animus against the president.<\/p>\n

Levin also said the story illuminated why, and how, Rosenstein had appointed Special Counsel Robert Mueller. \u201cThis also tells me why Rod Rosenstein appointed a special counsel,\u201d Levin explained. \u201cHe should never have appointed a special counsel, he violated his own department rules, there was no criminal predicate. But he was being pressed by the deputy director of the FBI.’\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition, Levin cautioned conservatives to consider why the\u00a0Times<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 with its\u00a0record<\/a>\u00a0of inaccurate reporting on the Trump administration \u2014 would have wanted to expose a threat to Trump. He pointed out several left-wing canards in the article, such as the claim that Trump had asked former FBI director James Comey to end the investigation of National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.<\/p>\n

Levin suggested that McCabe, or Mueller \u2014 or Mueller\u2019s deputy, Andrew Weismann \u2014 had clear motives to leak the claims about Rosenstein to the\u00a0Times<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 claims that were tellingly absent from Lisa Page\u2019s contemporaneous notes about the meetings.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have absolutely nothing on the President of the United States. They are trying to push their agenda. They are there for one reason and one reason only \u2014 to write the report in hopes of impeaching the president with a Democrat Congress,\u201d Levin said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Special Counsel\u2019s office \u2026 would like nothing more than the President of the United States to fire Rosenstein to claim that he is truly obstructing an investigation, trying to influence\u00a0their<\/em>\u00a0investigation, and then write it up as, effectively, as in Watergate, a \u2018Saturday Night Massacre\u2019 of sorts.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn other words, it\u2019s a setup of the president,\u201d Levin concluded, adding: \u201cThe president must not fire Rosenstein, certainly not prior to the midterm election. That\u2019s what they want.\u201d<\/p>\n
