Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., called \u201coutrageous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor Republicans to schedule a Friday vote on Brett Kavanaugh\u00a0today, two days before Dr.\u00a0Blasey\u00a0Ford has had a chance to tell her story, is outrageous,\u201d Feinstein said in a statement. \u201cFirst Republicans demanded Dr.\u00a0Blasey\u00a0Ford testify immediately. Now Republicans don\u2019t even need to hear her before they move ahead with a vote.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is not necessary for Kavanaugh to secure a majority vote by the committee in order for the full Senate to vote on his confirmation. Former federal prosecutor Sidney Powell reacts.\" \/> <\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>On Monday, Christine Blasey Ford\u2019s attorney Michael Bromwich specifically complained about Republicans hiring outside counsel to question his client during the public hearing set for Thursday morning. In a late Monday letter to the committee, Bromwich requested the prosecutor\u2019s resume \u201cimmediately\u201d and asked to meet with the lawyer.<\/p>\n<p>Sources told Fox News that committee Republicans hired a female prosecutor who specializes in sex crimes in preparation to hear Ford\u2019s testimony &#8212; though it remains unclear whether she would lead the committee\u2019s questioning. The planning, though, prompted the letter of concern from Bromwich, once again throwing into doubt whether the hearing will go forward.<\/p>\n<p>As of Tuesday afternoon, a Republican aide told Fox News the committee reserves its right to have counsel ask questions of Ford but beyond that has not determined how to proceed.<\/p>\n<p>Feinstein, for her part, could not guarantee Ford would attend if the prosecutor were to lead questioning on behalf of Republican members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no way of knowing,\u201d Feinstein told Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Fox News confirms that Senate Judiciary Committee staffers interviewed Kavanaugh Tuesday about the sexual misconduct allegations by another woman, Debbie Ramirez, that appeared Sunday in The New Yorker.\u00a0A source familiar with the interview tells Fox News Republican staffers led the phone interview and Democratic aides listened in, but did not ask any questions. Kavanaugh again denied the allegations.<\/p>\n<p>Fox News is told\u00a0Democrats were told about the call only about 15 minutes before it happened and had effectively no time to prepare.<\/p>\n<p>In his letter Monday, Bromwich took issue both with plans for the outside counsel as well as fiery comments made by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., accusing Democrats of a \u201csmear campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are finding it difficult to reconcile your letter and [staff member Mike Davis&#8217;] note with the Majority Leader\u2019s speech this afternoon on the Senate floor,\u201d wrote Bromwich.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou said in your letter that you intend to provide a \u2018fair and credible\u2019 process &#8230; Yet earlier today, the Majority Leader dismissed Dr. Ford\u2019s experience as a \u2018smear campaign,\u2019 claiming mistakenly that the witnesses\u2019 statements to the Committee constitute \u2018a complete lack of evidence,\u2019 implying that there has been a thorough investigation,\u201d the letter read.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2018\/09\/24\/kavanaugh-denies-sexual-misconduct-in-fox-news-exclusive-know-im-telling-truth.html\"><b>KAVANAUGH BREAKS SILENCE IN FOX NEWS INTERVIEW<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bromwich then raised concerns with an email from Davis that apparently suggested an outside counsel would question Ford.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis hearing plan that Mr. Davis described does not appear designed to provide Dr. Blasey Ford with fair and respectful treatment,\u201d Bromwich wrote. \u201cIn our view, the hiring of an unnamed \u2018experienced sex crimes prosecutor,\u2019 as Mr. Davis described in his email, is contrary to the Majority\u2019s repeated emphasis on the need for the Senate and this Committee\u2019s members to fulfill their constitutional obligations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cIt is also inconsistent with your stated wish to avoid a \u2018circus,\u2019 as well as Dr. Blasey Ford\u2019s requests through counsel that senators conduct the questioning. This is not a criminal trial for which the involvement of an experienced sex crimes prosecutor would be appropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At this point, the female prosecutor\u2019s identity has not been revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Bromwich\u2019s letter is the latest twist in the tumultuous talks between the committee and Ford. Her story first emerged in the media, though was relayed over the summer to Feinstein,\u00a0who has since faced GOP criticism for sitting on the accusations citing Ford&#8217;s initial desire for confidentiality.<\/p>\n<p>Ford accused Kavanaugh of covering her mouth and trying to remove her clothing at a party in the early 1980s, when both were in high school.<\/p>\n<p>The committee has offered for Ford to share her testimony in public or private, or over the phone. She and her team previously accepted an invitation to testify Thursday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-media fn-video\">\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<div class=\"m video-player\" data-widget-type=\"embed\" data-video-id=\"5839449900001\" data-video-domain=\"foxnews\"><a href=\"http:\/\/video.foxnews.com\/v\/5839449900001\/mcconnell-slams-shameful-smear-campaign-against-kavanaugh\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/a57.foxnews.com\/media2.foxnews.com\/BrightCove\/694940094001\/2018\/09\/24\/896\/504\/694940094001_5839446074001_5839449900001-vs.jpg?ve=1&amp;tl=1\" alt=\"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell accuses Senate Democrats of trying to destroy Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's reputation with decades-old allegations, pledges to give Kavanaugh an up-or-down vote on the Senate floor.\" \/> <\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Meanwhile, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., called on McConnell to apologize for describing the accusations against Kavanaugh as part of a \u201csmear campaign\u201d by Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>McConnell on Tuesday expressed his confidence that Kavanaugh will be confirmed to the high court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to have a respectful hearing,\u201d McConnell said. \u201cIt\u2019s not uncommon to have outside counsel to do questioning for this type of hearing. Once the hearing is done, we plan to move forward in the very near future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McConnell added that \u201ceveryone understands there is a presumption of innocence,\u201d and that \u201cwe should go into these hearings with a presumption of innocence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am confident we are going to win and he will be confirmed in the near future,\u201d McConnell said. \u201cI believe he will be confirmed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kavanaugh has denied Ford&#8217;s allegation, as well as that of another woman who alleges he exposed himself to her while at Yale University.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I know is the truth, and the truth is I&#8217;ve never sexually assaulted anyone,\u201d Kavanaugh told Fox News&#8217; Martha MacCallum in an exclusive interview on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Kavanaugh also told MacCallum that he would not withdraw his name from consideration over the allegations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want a fair process where I can defend my integrity, and I know I&#8217;m telling the truth,\u201d the judge said. \u201cI know my lifelong record and I&#8217;m not going to let false accusations drive me out of this process.
