Trey Gowdy (R-SC) said in a Thursday interview that the information contained in the Russia documents withheld by the Department of Justice (DOJ) pose no risk to national security, and would be embarrassing to former CIA Director John Brennan, the DOJ and the FBI.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/brennan-clapper.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-104515\" src=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/brennan-clapper.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/brennan-clapper.jpg 500w, https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/brennan-clapper-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019ve read it. Some of it\u2019s embarrassing for the Department of Justice \u2014 some of it\u2019s embarrassing for the FBI. Embarrassment is not a reason to classify something,&#8221; said Gowdy. &#8220;<strong>A lot of it should be embarrassing to John Brennan, and maybe therein lies why he is so adamant that this information not be released<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don\u2019t think it\u2019s going to change anyone\u2019s mind, but I\u2019ve seen nothing in it that is going to jeopardize the national security interest of this country,&#8221; Gowdy added. &#8220;Other than one document related to George Papadopoulos, I don\u2019t think people are going to be that interested in it. Trump recently responded by ordering Brennan\u2019s security clearance revoked. Gowdy criticized Brennan, saying the Obama appointee is \u201cpart of the reason we are in this historic conundrum.\u201d He did not describe what information in the classified documents will embarrass Brennan and other government officials. But\u00a0<strong>as CIA director, Brennan was directly involved in gathering and sharing intelligence used to investigate whether members of the Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The documents in question are related to Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants obtained against former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page as well as FBI notes of interviews used to obtain the warrants. &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/09\/22\/gowdy-brennan-russian-documents-fbi-probe\/\">Daily Caller<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to\u00a0House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA),\u00a0Trump&#8217;s order to declassify a broad swath of DOJ\/FBI documents related to the Russia investigation will also expose the infamous &#8220;<strong>insurance policy<\/strong>&#8221; referred to in an August 15, 2016 text between former FBI employees Peter Strzok and Lisa Page.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with\u00a0<em>Fox News<\/em>&#8216;s Laura Ingraham last week, Nunes said that declassification will provide exculpatory evidence, including a dozen or so 302 witness interview forms from DOJ official Bruce Ohr which may shed light on his significant relationship with former MI6 spy Christopher Steele and &#8220;many other rotten apples.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A lot of people think that the insurance policy was getting the FISA warrant on [former Trump campaign aide] Carter Page,&#8221;\u00a0Nunes\u00a0told Ingraham, adding\u00a0&#8220;<strong>We actually believe it was more explicit than that<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DevinNunes?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@DevinNunes<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@POTUS<\/a>&#39; order to declassify FISA documents: &quot;This is going to be a great day for the American people.&quot; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IngrahamAngle?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@IngrahamAngle<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/a01AUmj5MI\">https:\/\/t.co\/a01AUmj5MI<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lhi2tkjgQN\">pic.twitter.com\/lhi2tkjgQN<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Fox News (@FoxNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FoxNews\/status\/1041884612434305025?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 18, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Trump also ordered the DOJ to release text messages from several key players in the Trump-Russia investigation, &#8220;<strong>without redaction<\/strong>,&#8221; of former FBI Director James Comey, his deputy Andrew McCabe, now-fired special agent\u00a0Peter Strzok, former FBI attorney\u00a0Lisa Page and twice-demoted DOJ official Bruce Ohr.<\/p>\n<div class=\"SandboxRoot env-bp-350\" data-twitter-event-id=\"0\">\n<div id=\"twitter-widget-0\" class=\"EmbeddedTweet EmbeddedTweet--edge EmbeddedTweet--mediaForward media-forward js-clickToOpenTarget js-tweetIdInfo tweet-InformationCircle-widgetParent\" lang=\"en\" data-click-to-open-target=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/FoxNews\/status\/1041884612434305025\" data-iframe-title=\"Twitter Tweet\" data-scribe=\"page:tweet\" data-tweet-id=\"1041884612434305025\" data-twitter-event-id=\"3\">\n<article class=\"MediaCard MediaCard--mediaForward cards-multimedia customisable-border\" dir=\"ltr\" data-scribe=\"component:card\">\n<div class=\"MediaCard-media\">\n<div class=\"MediaCard-widthConstraint js-cspForcedStyle\" data-style=\"max-width: 2000px\">\n<div class=\"MediaCard-mediaContainer js-cspForcedStyle\" data-style=\"padding-bottom: 56.2500%\">\n<div class=\"NaturalImage-ctaOverlay PlayButton PlayButton--centered\" data-scribe=\"element:play_button\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>A spokesman from the Justice Department told\u00a0<em>Fox News<\/em>\u00a0that the DOJ and FBI &#8220;are already working with the Director of National Intelligence to comply with the President&#8217;s order,&#8221; while ODNI spokesperson Kellie Wade told the network: &#8220;As requested by the White House,\u00a0<strong>the ODNI is working expeditiously with our interagency partners to conduct a declassification review of the documents the President has identified for declassification.<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Trump agreed to delay the release on Friday &#8211; allowing the DOJ&#8217;s Inspector General to review the documents prior to declassification.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0Friday morning Tweets, Trump said: &#8220;I met with the DOJ concerning the declassification of various UNREDACTED documents. They agreed to release them but stated that so doing may have a perceived negative impact on the Russia probe. Also,\u00a0<strong>key Allies\u2019 called to ask not to release<\/strong>. Therefore,\u00a0<strong>the Inspector General has been asked to review these documents on an expedited basis<\/strong>. I believe he will move quickly on this (and hopefully other things which he is looking at). In the end I can always declassify if it proves necessary.
